04 limited v8 rust

I am picking up my 4runner Thursday after the dealer does some routine maintainence. I have been searching the forum on topics all day. I looked it over at the dealer and noticed some surface rust down on the front beam where the tow hooks are. There was a little bit on the control arms as well. I did notice that the battery tray had some paint flaking off with some rust spots but it wasn't rusted through and felt solid.
The intake manifold had some oxidation on it as well. How many have oxidation on there v8 manifolds? I didn't scour the underside but did have a quick look and nothing startled me. I will have a better look this week when I pick it up. It only has 33,000 miles and the exterior and interior are very clean and well maintained. It is black and looks like it has been garage kept but since I have some surface rust I am not sure. There is no rust on the gate or any other body parts. Should I be concerned or this very common. I will probably be doing some of the rust prevention some of you have mentioned.

I live outside of Philadelphia and this is where the car has spent it's life.

Thanks!

33k miles on a '04, that only has minor rust. Yea. It was garage kept. :) Otherwise, it would be a rust bucket under there.

I wouldn't worry. Sounds like you have a minimal amount of rust for a vehicle that age and location.

Do search for some prevention and what to do with what you have and you will get some good ideas. There are many threads already on the subject. In general, though, always wash it down after a snow storm. For that matter, a weekly freshwater scrub during the winter will keep any road salt (RUST DEATH) from hanging out on your truck and will go a ton to slow the rust assault.

That said, you live in PA and unless you garage house that thing.. it will rust. Like many things in life, you can slow it, not stop it. :)

I bought an '08 CPO 4x4 V8 T4R 28k miles a few months over the internet. The outside and interior were pristine; the undercarriage was a rotted out mess. I've never seen anything rust out so bad in such a small amount of time. My thought is someone drove it on the beach a time or two and never rinsed it. It was a southern (NC) car. I made the dealer buy it back-I owned it a week.

Wow! I hope mine is solid! I will find out Thursday! If this would be a serious issue, what would my options be?
