Hi Fellows, hope your weekend is going well.

i am thinking about changing my shocks for the runner. bother front and rear. I will like some advise and suggestion on sets i can look at as well as "bang for my money" deals.

the vehicle is an 04 4Runner SR5

i found a couple here

1. KYB SM5640 Mount Components Strut Mounting Kit - front and rear assembly

2. DTA 40060 Shocks Struts Full Set (Pack of 4 pcs)

3. DTA 70020 Full Set 2 Front Complete Struts with Springs and Mounts + 2 Rear Shocks 4-pc Set

4. 2040 - SENSEN Shocks Struts, Full Set, 4 Pieces, Lifetime Warranty also on www.rockauto.com/ for $91 + $10 shipping

i also like to know if the 04 sr5 has x-reas or not. because i see exc. x-reas on all items here. please feel free to suggest other sites with better deals to me.

thanks.

SR5 models do not have XREAS. Be glad you don't have it as mine is now leaking and needs to be replaced.

sport editions have xreas...... i would just do the bilstiens.. if u want bang for buck, find fj or tacoma trd bilstiens used with low miles

I just bought the bilstein 5100 shocks to replace mine as well. I havent put them on yet but will let you know how it rides. Im not doing the springs. Im hoping it doesnt ride to firm or harsh as I'd miss the softer ride, as I dont offroad

The Bilstein 5100's are pretty popular for the 4Runner. You can set them to level the front with the back or even lift it a little in conjunction with a rear spacer if you choose.

For stock springs I'd recommend Bilstein 4600's in the rear. Those seem to have a bit less aggressive valving.

5100's in front and run it up to at least 0.8" lift to help level things out and give a bit more travel up front. That's a big key to getting a good rough street ride out of these SUVs.

Any update lrlima? I'm thinking of doing the same...just replacing the shocks with the stock springs. Wondering how that's working out for you. Thanks in Advance!

I've been running 5100s for almost a year. I have the front set to the highest setting and the ride is still good. A bit stiffer than the stock shocks and definitely more body roll (had XREAS before), but still comfortable. I have stock springs in front and Moog FJ rear springs.

Just had them installed, overall very happy. Pretty much as everyone described - slightly firmer, though I believe it helps the overall ride as it doesn't bounce side to side around curves and is overall very smooth. Not harsh or overly different, but subtle in the way it handles and absorbs bumps. I would recommend for sure. My only complaint is that I didnt tell the mechanic to lift the front enough. It may be me, but the rear of the vehicle looks higher too negating the slight lift to the front. I should have told him the top notch on the front, not the second. my bad lol
