'04 Sport V8 Caliper Options

Did a bunch of searches and found some good information. Just put new tires (265/70R17) and 2018 4Runner wheels on. Need to do pads and rotors on all 4 but am wondering about the calipers. While there are no "sticking" issues that I've noticed, the truck is almost 14 years old. Visual inspection shows little rust but I'm thinking I should just replace them while I have have everything else off.

Suggestions on good rebuilt calipers? I see O'Reilly, Advance, and Napa all have comparible units (napa being the only ones available painted). Also found some aftermarket powdercoated units at Summit Racing etc.

Lastly, I know Toyota DOT3 Fluid is preferred but is there really that much difference when compared to Valvoline DOT3 etc? Thanks.

1) If you have the funds, or are itching to wrench, go for it. If not, no real need until they do seize up. I'd be more worried about getting the brake line off the caliper at this age of life. Break that and you're in for a world of hurt.

2) If you aren't doing the 5th Gen Upgrade, then go for whichever brick and mortar store is closest with the best warranty .. for when they seize up and you need to swap. Regardless, take the time to paint them as they are mostly uncoated calipers and will surface rust with any sight of moisture.

3) Brake fluid is brake fluid (unless you're tracking the car). Make sure it meets specs and you'll be fine for a daily driver. Personally, I use Walmart's Supertech. Easy to find, cheap enough on the wallet. Does the same thing.

Look at the remans on Rockauto, specifically the A-Cardone.
Has a "Weatherproofing Coating" and I can't complain. Been having them almost a year with no complaints.
Decent priced also.
