04 SR5 Lift

Wanting to put a 3in. lift on my 2004 4 Runner. But DO NOT want spacers. Was thinking about just replacing the shocks and coils in the front and rear. Should I increase the over-all length if the shocks and coils? Or increase the length of the shocks and coils by 3 inches when they are compressed? And not 100% sure if I have Shocks or struts I'm the front. Also wanting strong coils and shocks but not stiff.
