04 V6 Transmission ?

I have a 04 V6 4Runner and want to drain the transmission pan. I can't seem to find the amount I'll need to re-fill. I thought I saw on an earlier post it 3 - 4 quarts type IV fluild. Thanks all

My 2003 owner's manual says "up to 2.1 qt.". Check yours to make sure it's the same.

IIRC, I got 5L out of mine by tilting it up and back.

Guys thanks for your help, Im just going to get 3 quarts for now. Not sure what one of the replies wrote about moving the pan up and down. I'm just going to take the drain plug out.

It seems odd that 2004 needs new trans fluid. Was there a lot of towing or off-roading?

Toyota claims the fluid is lifetime --- I'd like my trans lifetime to be closer to 300k miles vice a lifetime of maybe only 120k miles, Changing fluid every 50k-75k miles is cheap (at least a simple drain and refill) compared to a $4k transmission.

I don't think Toyota claims the 4spd (early 4th Gen V6) tranny uses lifetime fluid, like the 5spd, but I also play it safe like you do with partial drain and refills.

To me, if there is a drain plug, its meant to be drained and filled. I do a drain and fill on my 03 V8 Limited every year, the fluids are soo cheap, might as well play it safe. @ $4.60 a qt at a DEALER, i seriously doubt its synthetic either since normal Dexron III is about $3-4 for cheap stuff at normal parts stores, so to me id rather keep the fluids fresh.

2004 V6 has a dip stick so its not lifetime and I don't do much off-roading but figured I'll just drain the pan. Put 4 quarts back in but I still think I need another one. I guess the amount that drains might vary. Any thoughts out there?? Tks for the help.

Some fluid remains in the torque converter. Changing what you can drain at the drain plug is still a good idea. Eventually you will clean it all out that way.

I've changed mine about 3 times since owning the Yota. Used 4 quarts every time no problems. Toyota type 4
