'04 V8 speedo/odo not working + CEL light + VSC et al

My 2004 V8 4Runner Sport lit up last week driving home...ABS, VSC lights came on...then CEL a little after that. And now the speedometer and odometer are not working. Autozone showing code P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor "A." No shifting issues or anything else out of the ordinary.

I have been reading through lots of threads here about this and I'm thoroughly confused. I can't tell if my vehicle has a transmission mounted speed sensor that needs to be replaced, if it's one of the 4 wheel speed sensors (how can you tell which one?), or the ABS module.

What's the best next step in troubleshooting? I need to get this fixed ASAP.

Anyone? Just replaced the front right and front left wheel speed sensors and disconnected battery but codes are not clearing. Still no ABS or VSC. However the speedometer has been working some days lately and not others. Working again today post-sensor swaps.

I might try swapping the rear sensors after lunch but they seem harder to get at given I don't have the tools to remove the wheels

For anyone dealing with this issue, it does not appear to be caused by any of the 4 wheel sensors (replaced / swapped them all). Taking it to the shop today—sounds like it's the sensor on the transfer case but will update later

Update: Shop replaced the speed sensor on the transfer case which fixed the speedo/odo issue but not the ABS/VSC lights. They further diagnosed and found it was the front right wheel sensor. Since I already replaced that, they removed the wheel and cleaned out the wheel bearing (said it had lots of old grease / crud in there) and that fixed it.

Lights haven't come back on since then

can we bump this? I have a p0500 code and speedo/odo dont work. I will be replacing all 4 wheel speed sensors and the 2 in the tranny. What would my next steps be?
