04SR5 bought JBL replacement, cd changer not working, advice?

Hi,
since my JBL head unit(04SR5) is acting up (will not play cd's) I bought a take out from somebody on eBay. The seller marked it as "excellent condition" and "working". So I got it after I triple checked if it was compatible, he boxed it up, sent it overseas and it got here just fine. Went to the dealer, they installed it, and of course with my luck the CD changer is shut tight! There is no way I can load a CD, much less play one. The radio works but that is it. Now I am a little confused what the issue is. So I have been talking to the seller and I am more than a little upset because he insists that the radio is/was fine and he wants me to take it out and send it back to him do he can "figure" out what the problem is. This young man thinks I am dumb since he asked me if I tried loading the Cd's correctly and explained to me that there is a certain way to do it!? I guess somewhere in my name there must be the word "stupid woman" attached, as I must be stupid not knowing how to load a CD into my CD changer in a truck I owned for 4 years?!? I paid money to have this installed since I have neither the time nor the knowledge to do it myself. So here is my question; is there anything that I need to know that is special when you remove a radio and re-install another one? This guy is asking me if there is a security code, or if maybe there is a problem with my truck? What does the truck have to do with the JBL CD changer not working and being closed to where you cannot even attempt to load a CD? I already spent enough money and I am not very happy right now. Somebody have any advice??? Thanks in advance!

When you say closed do you mean you can't slip the CD into the front panel slot?

It is shut as in nothing going in nothing going out. When you press the "load" button it just keeps blinking red and says "wait" and then when it does not react it just switches back to the radio.
There is no way you can load anything. You can literally see that the cd changer is closed for business. Got any ideas?

Have you tried the eject button? There may be a CD stuck inside.

In my infinite wisdom and the fact that I am not a stereo person I tried that too but it says "no disc". I just do not get why it would not work other than the fact that it was broke in the first place and the guy was not honest. I made sure the units were compatible and it should have been an easy one for one swap. Or am I mistaken? Any other advice?

My best advice is to get a 2005 single disc unit. The multi disc units are unreliable. When I installed my JBL system I made sure I had a single disk unit and have had no trouble. If you used PAYPAL for the transaction they can moderate and get your money back. Sorry you have had so much trouble. What ended up being wrong with your 4runner? As I recall it wouldn't go after you got it unloaded from the ship.

Well I tried being nice and doing this reasonably but the ebayer I bought the unit from refuses to refund me my money. I did not want to create a big deal about it so I told him I would have it removed and send it back to him and he can do whatever. But he insists that it was fine and that it "took me to long" to get back to him about the radio. Well I was on leave at that time and he knew that and it was not such a long time but I did have to wait for an app with the dealer. It is not my fault my husband is currently indisposed for a year instead of being able to take care of the radio. So I do rely on the dealer. I got back to him asap.
My next course of action was notifying ebay and paypal. But I did not want to have to do that. He keeps asking me if the shipping box was damaged (no it was not perfectly fine) or if the dealer or I "dropped" the radio and that caused it to close up? Well if anybody "dropped" it then it would have marks, but it is perfectly fine! I just feel like he is trying to come up with all sorts of excuses. And now I am mad...this is not very nice.
Am I correct in the assumption that it should just be a normal swap? I do not see where I need some type of code or anything otherwise the radio would not work or??? I remember the last thread where you and posted some info about the single disc ones. But how do I find the correct model?
I think about the Truck you are confusing me. I bought the Truck when it was 1 year old and we have never left this continent together

Sorry, another damsel in distress, my mistake. The JBL radio I am recommending has Toyota 16853 at the top of the front faceplate.

-A single disk player is not a direct replacement for the 6 disk changer, the trim around the radio is different.
-If you feel like removing the radio yourself here are the directions, its not that hard. You will need a metric socket set and a phillips screwdriver.

Hey, damsel in distress? That is so not me! But when it comes to the radio...yes it is I was so looking forward to having a CD player again and I did have to pay $80 to have the radio installed so when I tried to get it to work I was more than miffed when it did not go my way.
I just do not understand what the problem is other than it was broke from the get go and he was dishonest with the posting.
The number you gave me to look for would that one just be a easy swap?
That would be compatible with a 2004?

I press "load" and it just keeps blinking wait until it decides to go back to the radio station last played. It never gives me the option to load. How could I load, the darn slot will not open! I have tried to gently pry and see but it is shut, it could not be closed any tighter!
The guy who sold it said it was working fine but I really doubt that. Something that was working fine does not just shut closed and stop working all together!

I have the single disc radio with that number from a 2005 4runner in my dash right now and it fits perfectly . The dash size change came in 2006.

I have my stock 6 disc JBL changer up for sale in the classifieds section. It does work and should fit just fine in your 04 as it just came out of my 03.

I have not heard from you in a while. I'm glad I frequent this forum and came across your post. The picture you paint for everyone is your point of view and not the entire story. I didn't want to post this publicly but I feel I must defend myself.

If I must I will go into every detail about this transaction from the point where you asked if I would ship outside of the US, and before I could answer NO you bought the radio, to the point where I found this post saying you "gently pryed on it with a screwdriver".

This has been going on since June when you bought the radio and still I have not seen the radio returned to me. Your email to me said to refund you your money without mentioning the returning of the radio. I told you return the radio to me, I will take a look at it and we would go from there.

2 months later after the radio has been shipped around the world installed and now you say you "gently pryed on the slot with a screwdriver" you want me to just refund you the money after you did this? If anyone else on this board would do that then I am in the minority I guess.

The radio was in fine working order. Matt will you back me up on this or am I on my own?

I have replied to all of your email messages promptly. I have been everything a seller and mutual 4Runner owner should be. How can I refund someone's money that is half way around the world without having the unit in my hands?

When you initially found, what you say, there was a problem you should have immediately contacted me saying you were going to return the radio. I would have checked it out and if warranted refunded your money. I never said (2 months ago) I would not refund your money.

The questions I asked you about the operation of the radio were legit questions. You don't seem to think others on this forum (nated05) are treating you like an idiot when they asked you the same questions I did.

I'm not going to drag this out. Don't waste your money on shipping to send the radio back to me as I will refuse the shipment; I will not accept a radio that has had a screw driver stuck into it.

I am not the person you painted me out to be; far from it. I am an active member of this forum as well as having perfect feedback through Ebay and have bought and sold, I can't tell you how many, items here and other forums.

I do apologize for the troubles you are having. I knew before I shipped the item out of the US that I shouldn't but I figured you were in the military and I would because the transaction would me smooth; I thought wrong.
