05 4runner amber dash lights

Dang it...... I was hoping there was a mod for the dash and control lighting also. I dislike the orange crush color mainly because it is so difficult to see in the daylight. I was hoping that I would be able to change it to a bluish color.

Displays are LCD
The radio and computer displays are backlit Liquid Crystal Displays, which is why they get washed out by direct sunlight. Usually when it's sunny out, I wear polarized sunglasses which allow me to see the displays clearly even with sunlight glaring off them.
They aren't Light Emitting Diodes (LED's). If they were they would be more visible. It's also why they can't have their color changed. The orange backlighting color is into the screens themselves.
As far as the speedometer cluster lighting, that is probably LED lit through a plastic light tube system. The light is shone through a plastic ring and illuminates the dial perimeter. But desoldering and installing new LED's to change the color will void the warranty. I wouldn't tinker witht he electronics unless you are willing to replace them if something goes wrong.
On my Limited, the needles on the gauges are lit by red leds, making them very visible in all conditions.

Possible way to change
Well not to bring this up from a post quite a while back, but i tinkered around with the A/C control unit when installing my headunit, and i found the bulbs to be twist lock miniature dash light bulbs.. if you can measure the bulbs size, then i think you can switch out for a diff color. I've found white, blue, amber, red for this twist lock bulb. I've been wanting to switch mine out for white, but i'd research first.
BTW if anyone has had a 03-05 Instrument cluster pulled out, please check what bulbs illuminate the gauges, because i would believe Toyota would have used the same type of bulbs.
