'05 4Runner JBL 10 speaker system questions

Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum, and seeing all the info everyone is exchanging will definitely make me a repeat visitor!

I have the 6 disc, 10 speaker JBL system in an '05 4Runner. Here's my deal: it sounds good with all the windows closed, but with anything open, a lot of volume is lost and I have to crank it to hear anything. Has anyone else experienced this? Are there any ways to boost the output without putting a huge amp in, blowing the speakers, or voiding the warranty?

I have same system

Do you have it set to "surround" mode. Makes a big difference. Otherwise, I'm not having the same issue. Actually, it sounds better with windows open -- of course given that I'm not driving on the highway.

yes, i do have it set to surround on and i definitely notice the difference in quality. it's not a huge deal, since bringing it up into the mid 40's or low 50's gets me the volume i want. but i'm afraid that keeping this practice up will eventually blow the speakers out.

I have the same system and usually run it at 45 or so and have had no problems with the speakers. I wouldn't be too worried about it.

I've had the same problem and been afraid to venture much past 35-40 for fear of blowing a speaker.

Don't worry about the blowing the speakers--I run near "max" all the time. The power output is a bit tame imho. Besides, IF you blow a speaker, Toyota will warrenty it for 3 years/36K miles.
