'05 4Runner Map lights ?

Does anyone know if the Lights by the sunroof button, referred to as "map light", are supposed to work when you open the door and/or when you turn the car off? They were working when I would turn the car off. Stay on for the standard 15 secs. then fade off. All of the sudden they stopped working. They still work if I push them but not the way they did before. Toyota reps dont seem to know anything? Very annoying. Please help!

Only my dome lights over the second row and cargo area lights up when the key is turned off. The maplights only work manually. Don't know why Toyota doesn't give the option like the 2nd gen 4Runner to have the maplights come on when the doors are opened.
