05 4runner rough suspension

4unner drivers straight as can be but when I hit any kind of bump it is extremely rough, and if you hit a bump while in a turn it is a little scary. Have 150k on it now and i think all stock suspension and trying to determine what to swap. Has the ras which I intend to swap for coils. Anyone have recommendations on what suspension parts to swap. Want a soft ride. Thanks

Id start with coils and springs but what kind depends on if you'd like to just have new oem parts or lift it or level it. Then you could do sway bar bushings and if you lift it you could do uca's depending on how high you lift it as well as extended sway bar links.

Sorry forgot to mention that it is at stock height and thats how I want to keep it.
Would bad shocks and springs cause it do so bad with bumps in turns? Basically no way to absorb the change in terrain?

I'd replace the shocks first and go from there. if you don't want to do it twice go to rockauto.com and order a new set of moog springs for it as well. some placers will even prebuild the from strut assemblies for you. but the 4runner is one of those that you can do your self without extreme difficulty.

What do you mean by rough?

Mine is the same as yours with just over 150k miles, just no RAS. I just replaced my front LCA bushings, lower ball joints, CV axles, struts, and all 4 springs (upgraded to FJ springs). I have no idea which thing helped the most, but the difference was dramatic. The ride is smooth and no more clunking.

150k on your Runner? I'd say that your shocks are shot and your front coils are probably sagging. Is your Runner an SR5, SE or Limited? If it is an SE, then your XREAS system is shot. At 150k, it's probably safe to say that your upper and lower ball joints are toast as well as your sway bar end links (front and back) and your sway bar bushings.

So, you want to remain at stock height, with a soft ride? Are you going to do the labor yourself or pay somebody? Since swapping out your front shocks is going to involve disassembling the coil-overs, you might as well replace the front coils at the same time. If you are on a budget, you can purchase an entire (already assembled) coil-over assembly from Autozone for about $110.00 each. Most people on this forum, however, upgrade to a much more robust system, however, with the end goal being more height and a better off-road ride.

That being said, at 150k, here is your shopping list:
new front coil-overs
new rear shocks
new front and rear sway bar links
new upper and lower control arm bushings
new upper and lower ball joints (these are not cheap I am sorry to say)
new front and rear sway bar bushings.

Yes, the labor is a ***** and the cost is not cheap, BUT, your Runner will ride like new, once again.

preacher is right but like some of the others have said I'd start with front coilovers and rear coils and rear shocks and see how you like that. It's not like you have to take out those items over and over to get in the next items on the list and then you can find out right where you think it feels good and save the rest of the $

Set all tires to 32 psi, she rode really nice...

I have 3 kids as well. I wanted to do it myself, but I don't even have time to watch football anymore. Found a local one-man shop that did it all for a really good rate.
