05 4Runner vs. 06 4Runner Crash!

This happened last week on a rainy morning. I have an 05, mint condition, Black 4runner Sport and it just crossed 14k miles.

I was going about 45-50 mph and a 16-year old in an 06 4Runner turned left in front of me. I clipped the rear quarter panel and spun her around. Fortunately I wrestled the truck to a stop without ending up in oncoming traffic.

No injuries what so ever. It was merely just a jolt for me. This truck is tough as nails!!!

It could have been much worse!

Amazingly, the estimate was about $10,000 for my damages alone. I insisted on factory parts to be installed at the dealer authorized collision center and State Farm approved.
Only problem is that it won't be finished for three weeks.

Kudos to Toyota and State Farm!

so i take it the new led lights weren't bright enough for you?

well, glad nothing drastic came of it. damn spoiled brats. what's a 16 doing with a brand new 4run anyway? when i was 16, i bought my own car, an 85 pontiac 6000le...i'm sure she didn't buy that 4run by herself....
 
well state farm may be great but its the age of the vehicle that determines how willing an ins. co will be with using oem parts.

someone rearended me and since my 01 was more than 4 yrs old the estimator could only use the pricing of aftermarket parts.
 
Whew...glad to hear that nobody was hurt.

What a weird coincidence that 2 4Runners (or any 2 of the same vehicle for that matter!) were involved in a wreck together.
 
Yeah, the driver was 16 and had her license and 4Runner for 2 months. She got a failure to yield ticket and because of Georgia's new drivers laws, she may lose her license for up to a year.

Jeez, my first car was an 81 Honda Civic.

The airbag did not go off. I'm guessing it was either because the damage extent was limited to about an inch away from the sensor, or that the passenger side airbag just didn't deploy because I didn't have anyone with me sitting there. All damage was on the passenger side.

Whatever the reason, I'm glad it didn't go off. My seat belt was plenty enough to hold me down, and honestly if it did go off, I might have been so stunned that I might not have been able to fight the truck from going into oncoming traffic or landing in the creek that was 100ft away.

Anyway, I'm still amazed and glad it wasn't worse. I hate that CarFax will now show my T4R as previously wrecked. But I've always intended to drive this truck till the wheels fell off, and I'm sure I'll get a nice diminished value check from the insurance agency.

The system worked perfectly by not deploying the air bag, for this type of impact. I would have been surprised if it did. I was rear ended last year by an older car that was totaled. The hood and grill were pushed all the way back to the windshield and my 4Runner was drivable, with just superficial damage. She hit me so hard; I was pushed into the car in front of me causing a lot of damage to that car without the air bags being deployed. I was amazed at how well the 4Runner held up and how the air bag system could determine it didn

Why is it everyone hates when a 16 year old gets a new car in this case a 4runner?I got a new 04 at 15 which is being repainted finally due to hurricane damage also state farm a very good insurance company.

like every 15-16 year old... the PARENTS got the new car and the kids were allowed to drive it.

again, not all 16 year olds drive recklessly.. it all happens to us when we don't pay attention for that one split second.

i just got my check from when that audi wanted to test out the ARB, 1500, no toyota parts, repair bumper repair everything.... i told them to go $@(! themselves and give me what i need (3250) or i would sue. considering they already have been threatened with that once, maybe they wont be stupid and just give me my money.

as for the wreck, that sucks, but itdoes look like the truck took the wreck well, esp. for those speeds! and i understand the 16 year olds getting the new cars thing, even though i got my 4runner as a graduation present from highschool, i think at 16 you should get a beater, because i know four of my friends had to die in car wrecks before i slowed down. i got a couple tickets for 90+ in a 55 and that didnt slow me down at all, i was on my way to an early grave had my friends not died and showed me that i am not as invinceable as i thought
 
Everybody does make a mistake or two but I do have my reservations about somebody with limited driving experience to be in command of a vehicle weighing on average double of the average passenger vehicle especially when i see these kids driving an H2 and such.
I know not all teens are inattentive drivers but on the average they are more than not and IMO their should be a vehicle weight restriction on young drivers til they get more experience since a small blunder involving a large vehicle "bumping" a Honda Civic can have fatal results.

Ouh, those 16 years old drivers. In Canada with G1 (16+ yr old) you are not allowed to drive without G licence driver with more then 4 yr. of experience on the passenger seat. I'm not against young drivers; I'm just saying we should teach them better how to drive. I remember when I was living in Italy; we used to have "P-Licence". It was first step in getting your full driving licence. With "P-Licence" you CAN'T drive any vehicle with passenger capacity more then 5 people and power more then 50hp. After two successful years they were able to get normal licence.
 
We now have a law that begginner drivers cannot have more than one other teenage passenger in the car w/o a licensed driver over 21 in the car or something like that. I see the law regularly broken around the HS near my house.

it's actually about time colorado instated that law, imo. took them long enough.

but yeah, it always gets broken. even when i got my license in cali a few years ago, it was broken, and it was fairly new to cali then. but when i moved to co and that law wasn't in effect, but didn't matter since i had my license for long enough anyways, i was surprised..

op, most important, is that you are ok..

Glad you are OK. It will be good as new. Make sure it is clearly documented what is repainted for warranty issues. Someone I know had an accident. The shop painted more than they needed to, or documented. The extra paint peeled, and they would not fix it. The area peeling was not documented in the repair order.

Don't worry about Carfax, I beleive a vehicle has to be totaled to show up.
 
Pictures are down.

No one pays attention to that 1 year no one in the car except someone over 21 rule. At least no one I know does. It's meant to be broken.
