I'm taking the wife's 05 SR5 when she gets a new one next week. It hasn't been a big deal since I never drive it, but I've always noticed it sits lower (maybe 2 or 3 inches) than other 05 4WD 4Runners and no clue why. I have searched all over the web to come up with a good answer, but so far nothing. Can anyone tell me if there was some sort of difference in the options Toyota offered that would make it like this? Tires are stock size, ground clearance seems to be standard but the overall height of the vehicle is just low... While I'm at it, does anyone happen to know the largest size tires I can get on there w/out rubbing? Thanks.

For max tire size - check out the sticky at the top of this page, it has all tire/wheel/lift combos that can fit and won't fit. Very useful.
If it's sitting THAT low then it may be an issue with the shocks, there could be one blown or something wrong. Does it ride like it used to or should? Is it rough, or bottom out very easily? That could indicate an issue with the shocks...

Shocks would not cause that noticeable a difference in height. Shock absorbers are primarily for absorbing the shock or up and down motion of the vehicle. The Springs are what actually support the weight of the vehicle and provide ride height for the most part.
I find it hard to believe that all the springs are that badly compressed unless someone tried to lower the vehicle or something. I would take a quick look at the suspension and see if the springs look like they are compressed too much or not the right springs.
Now when you talk about other '05 4WD you are referring to stock vehicles right? some members level out their stock units and this provides that higher look because the 4th gens come with a rake from the factory.
Another thing could be that the other 4Runners are riding on slightly larger tires and or rims. The difference would be very mild, but I suppose could be mistaken for more than it seems?
I guess I should get in and take a look. When I mention other '05s, its every one I come across. Never have really looked closely at rims or tires, but who knows, maybe I've just seen that many with mods. I'll try to find one this weekend in a parking lot and take a picture of the two side by side.

how many miles on your wife's runner. I ask because my wife's 03 runner sat super low and I believe that her springs were just plane worn out. We just put a new suspension on hers (icon's front and rear with All pro rear springs) and not only does it sit nice but it rides like a dream. As far as how big of a tire you can run, it just depends on if your willing to trim a little. I trimmed and hammered the pinch welds and got 35's to fit without rubbing. I'm not suggesting that you run 35's without a lift but pick a tire you like and they will fit with a little work. Good luck moving forward
