05 T4R Ltd V8 - Navigation DVD version?

I purchased this vehicle over the weekend for a steal. Even though the price was low and the trade in on my 02 Highlander (135,000 miles) was unbelievable, a few things have come to light. One, is the Nav DVD is missing and will cost $275 to replace. There is one on eBay, but I am not sure which version I need? Yes, buying the DVD thru Toyota means I am getting the most recent version. But is that really that important? Apparently, I also have a backup camera. Will this only work if the nav DVD is inserted?

Thanks in advance...

Did you ask the previous owner if they still had the DVD? It's not like you normally remove it from the nav in the 1st place under normal conditions. They may still have it. If you bought the vehicle from a dealer, sounds like they may have done this on purpose. As far as versions of the DVD nav, the newest maps would be best, but chances are most of the roads you drive do not generally change that often. The newest maps will have the most up to date restaurants, gas stations (although they seem to just change names), banks (again changing names)...ultimately it is up to you.

Never tried the backup camera w/o the nav dvd in the drive. Not sure about that one.

Well, the 4Runner went through 2 auctions along the way before arriving at a Mitsubishi dealer. Thinking about it last night, someone between the owner and the dealer must have stripped the truck of anything that could go on eBay: Nav DVD, floor mats, tonneau cover, and Toyota manual holder. I did locate a generation 4 DVD on eBay for $75, so we'll see how that works. I found mats too, and I took the manual holder from my Highlander I traded in, so I should be good to go shortly. I did shop the DVD and Del Toyota wanted $275 for the DVD. Conicelli Toyota wants $250. So if you think there is one price for OEM parts...think again!

Thanks! I'll let you know about the back up camera.
