05 T4R terrible snow performance

I get into the truck, get it into 4h, then 4l, lock the center diff, and start to drive

You got into 4L. All you did was have lower gearing and let ATRAC be aggressive as possible. In snow, you could've just been in 4H and had the center diff on and gotten through fine. You need wheel spin, and with 4H + center lock, you would've gotten just that.

And before you comment "your tires suck"

Yea, your tires suck. I've ran toyo's on my parents car and they were awful in snow.

understand all the SUVs and cars had all seasons

Just because other cars had All seasons doesn't mean yours are just as good. For example, Continental DWS's and Michelin PSAS4's are amazing in snow even though they're All seasons. Throw in tread depth and PSI and your instantly looking at different results too.

Well, I’m with the OP (my 4Runner does NOT go in the salt).

I put brand new Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T’s 285/70R17 (SNOW rated) on tonight. I fired it up and tried driving through my yard. It went, but it had way more trouble than I expected from it.

My Geo (it is spooled and running SXS tires) plowed through with zero issues.

You guys not having issues are you running a limited slip in the rear? These open diffs suck.

Really thinking ARB’s are going in now.

Thanks again for all the feedback guys, goes to show you how much I know about 4runner 4wd systems....bupkis. New tires are on the horizon so ill quit my complaining and drive carefully in the meantime :high5:

I drove though the storm last weekend in The Whites no problem. Just 4H, all about the shoes

I eventually figured out that 10 psi in the tires can get me around deep snow.

Not exactly ideal for road driving.
