'05 upgrade stereo to MP3 and USB

I have a 4runner 2005, sport pkg, V8, Salsa Red
I would like upgrade existing sound system so I could connect my MP3 player via an USB plug rather than the upgrade which I have, which is a audio plug

Any suggestions?

Well you didnt provide much info like what make/model MP3 player you have but
I could not be happier with my Kenwood.

I play MP3s off a USB thumb drive but you can get Ipod adapters for them, some of their decks come standard with the adapters too.

Ducman, how did you get the Toyota Wallpaper on your DNX5120? I just installed the same unit in my 04 and haven't learned all the tricks yet. I take it I can learn this trick by reading the owners manual ?

I have a kenwood also, I'll try to get a picture later, it's not nearly as fancy as Ducman's but I love it just the same. You can connect either an Ipod or a USB device; I connect my USB since I unfortunately own a Zune. If I'm understanding you correctly I think mine would do what you want; there's a plug where you'd connect the Ipod to (or the USB).

I think it's time for me to change out my stereo.

I started by wanting a 3.5 input for mp3, but also need to buy a GPS. Are there any affordable in dash GPS/radios that anyone would recommend for an 03?

it's a piece of crap.

I tried using their "updates" etc etc.

It eventually worked, but was not in working order. I was unable to enter folders or select the track...

If anyone out there knows how to figure out how to use the GROM ...

PLEASE tell me.

Why didn't i return it? was put off by other things before getting the grom installed.

My mp3 player is a thumb drive with a USB jack. The existing standard stereo in my 2005 4Runner has just CD and cassette drive. I modded it so I have a CD1 input that I run a audio cable from my mp3 thumb drive into it (not happy, I have to max out volume on mp3 thumb drive). I would like to send digital mp3 music vice audio music into the system. I was hoping not to have to buy an entirely new system.

I looked up your Kenwood DNX5120 Nav system. I guess I need something like that. But when I inputted my make and model (2005 4runner) it said that model wouldn't work. Did you do anything special to install? Is your 4Runner a limited edition?
