05 V8 SE Rear ended

Hello friends,
This is an awesome site. About 6 years ago I was going back and forth between 4Runner and Honda Pilot. This site helped me go for 4Runner. Enjoyed my 4R SE all these years. Got rear ended 2 days ago. Police report stated it is the fault of the other driver. So his insurance will cover all my repair costs. Interested in knowing about all that I should be looking for to verify after repairs are fixed. Soon I will post pics of my rear ended 4R. Just for a brief description, insurance adjustor thinks that mostly the middle piece (silver colored) of the rear bumper need to be replaced. Also the single piece of rear bumper on driver's side (the angular piece that forms left corner of the bumper and a portion of the wheel well) needs to be replaced. Adjustor wrote that the tow hitch cover will be replaced as well.
Anything that I should verify after the repair please.
I feel like there is a new rattle in the passenger side of front door and rear door as well. Makes me feel so bad after the impact of so nicely maitained SUV. By the way the vehicle that rear ended me is an 05 GMC Sierra pick up.

If the body shop finds more damages, they'll notify the insurance company and the adjuster. Don't forget to have the body shop to include alignment before everything is done.

1) I would have the dealer do the repair unless there is something especially wrong with your local dealers shop.

2) Demand new OEM parts.

why would you need an alignment when it gets rear ended. its a solid rear axle and it sounds like the damage did not go past the bumper reinforcement. an alignment would be pointless.

your ins co will probably write for A/M parts. if you want new parts you will probably have to pay the difference unless you have a endorsement in your policy that allows OEM parts (that only works within a certain amount of mileage though), visibily they are inferior(fittment) or you can prove the A/M parts are inferior.

I dont see any structural damage, at all. The V8 tow hitch is a monster. Mike, thats not a reason.

I was just suggesting. What does he have to lose? The other guy's insurance will be paying for it anyway. With all accidents i've been thru, i've always had the body shop take it to the dealer to have it aligned accdg to specs. But, that's just me.

The only issue I see is that its an 05 with Grandtreks on it. Either it has low miles or the OP replaced them....again.'

If you look at it that way I guess. I wouldnt though.

I apologize for resurrecting a zombie thread, but this one has the info I need.

My vehicle is an 03 V8

Yesterday I was rear-ended while stopped by another SUV going about 30-40mph. Noticed that my hitch seems to have taken the brunt of the damage. Lot of cosmetic bits broken, but that's easily done.

My question is: assuming the insurance company doesn't declare it totaled since that's what they seem to enjoy doing...

I'd imagine the hitch and surrounding bent parts are toast since the metal is weakened and not suitable for safe towing anymore. Is it possible and/or advised to request they replace it with the one shown in these images instead of the crossmember hitch mine came with?

If yes. could someone please advise me in simple terms what I would be asking them to do?

I am also in central il. I have a complete rear bumper for an 04 if you need one. It is decent but would need to be painted to be perfect. Has reflectors. It is silver.

I am going to keep that offer in mind - if it turns out the truck is totalled, maybe I can shave the price down a bit by supplying my own parts.
