'06 4-Runner Limited V8 and the TRD Dual Exhaust

Guys,

Just took delivery of my '06 4-Runner Limited V8 today and wanted to let the group know that the TRD dual exhaust will not fit the '06 Limted V8s (not sure about SR5s) without minor modification. According to the dealer (Toyota of San Bernardino), there are two exhaust hangers that are approximately "2-3 inches" from where they need to be. I had the dealer remove and re-weld the hangers rather than wait for an "'06 model" TRD version. I've only had the truck in my possession for a few hours and haven't had it on a lift to get a better idea of what they're talking about. I may try to crawl under there in the next few days to see what I can see.

Had to wait a bit for my new wheels and the exhaust to come in but, now that it's all together, I must say I'm pretty pleased with the results. We've had a 4-Runner in the family since 1988 and this latest edition continues the tradition. I'll likely be selling the OEM 18-inch wheels, so you might want to check out the F/S section every now and then.

I'm using the tires with my new wheels. I don't have any pics yet of the vehicle, new wheels or the new OEM wheels. When I get some pics and post in the "Classifieds", I'll establish a price I think is fair.

Upon reflection, I probably shouldn't have mentioned the wheels since the real point of the post was to make the community aware of the slight hiccup in installation of the TRD dual exhaust on an '06 vehicle.

The TRD exhaust had to be modified (ever so slightly) to fit my truck as well. The driver side hanger had to cut and rotated 90*, but other than that, it fit just fine.

*Wheels are chrome which is not my cup of tea, but I like the styling and the fact they are forged. IMO, the GGM is one color that can handle a bit of bling without going overboard.

No pics yet. Just got it yesterday.

Tires are Michelin Cross Terrain, sized 265/60/18.

Pics are coming, guys, but the earliest it will be, most likely, will be this weekend. I expected to have them earlier, but wifey is driving it while her car is being serviced even though she could be driving mine. My round-trip to and from work is 100-miles driveway to driveway, so I do not get home in time to have any pics taken. Since it's going to be my DD, I'm trying to be generous until we get her car back.

Tires appear to be up to the task, but I have no way to compare them to the Dunlops, and I had Yokohama Advans on the '96 which are quite a bit more aggressive than the stock Michelin Cross Terrains. The Cross Terrains are quiet and track well although I'd prefer 285/60s with a larger contact patch as opposed to the 265s since my wheels are 18 X 8.5. Once these wear out, I'll replace them with wider versions if they are available. Thanks for your patience.

I was meaning to PM you on SF to thank you for your assistance and answering all my questions. It really helped me with a series of decisions. I'm very pleased so far with the vehicle. I'll have more reliable impressions once I get it back from my wife. She's said she needs to "get used to" the TRD burble, but I like it and it quiets down real nice once you get into cruise mode whether it's in town or on the freeway. From a stop, though, or opening the throttle a bit, it's noticeable but not obtrusive but, then again, coming from my Supra, EVERYTHING is quiet, lol.

The truck just oozes quality, IMO, and, at first blush, it appears the '06 improvements with respect to noise attenuation work well. The leather, fit and finish, dual-zone climate control and "thunk" of the doors all spell quality. I also like the way the rear hatch automatically pulls itself shut once there is metal to metal contact...neat. Memory seating is also nice even though I'll wind up putting 95% of the miles on her.

As soon as I get some pics, I'll let you know, as I will definitely need help in posting them, computer-illiterate that I am. Thanks again for all your assistance.

Ken, I in the market for a new 4runner LE W/Nav. Did you buy your 4 runner in So. Cal.? If so What dealer did you go too?
And do you have any tips for me?
