06 4Runner = No more Avalanche Fenders

I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet, but it appears on the toyota site that the 06 4Runner will shed it's Avalanche-like fenders for more curvy models. I for one do not own a 4Runner yet, but I planned on purchasing an 06 regardless of the fenders. This just makes the wait even more worth while.

I think non-color-keyed fenders of the '03 + the squared-off opening were very similar to those found on the Avalanche.

I agree with you, though. I think the squared-off fenders were distinctive. Also notice that they eliminated the reflectors in the bumper.

The side profile photo on the website and in the original post above almost looks like a Mazda Tribute, IMHO...

Yeah good point - I guess I can see the non-color-keyed ones looking like an Avalanche.

Speaking of that photo above - why is it that manufacturers always showcase their new vehicles in the most drab, ugly colors!? Brown? And those look like the smallers 16" rims too. C'mon!

Round vs. Square

While the new round design looks fine, I personally like the distinctive square look of the 03 - 05 models (sans cladding). The 06 style looks more generic.

As a whole, the Runner still has a unique "muscular" look.

IMO the '06 round fenders doesn't look too appealing, but more importantly, the rear (lower) bumper makes the 4R look like it has a fat a$$

I too like the squared fenders and if you look at the Generation 1 4Runner you'll notice it too had similar looks in the fenders and side panels which I liked as it shows how a classic design can transcend time

Hmm, the Durango is just plain fugly though - this new 4R isn't that bad! I still much prefer the 03-05 styling though.

Looking at the picture posted in this thread, I don't really like it. It seems to be missing something, but I don't know exactly what. Whatever it was about the '04 that led me to buy is no longer there.

Looks to me like the picture posted is Galactica grey or the 06 version of it. I think its one of the most popular colors...I happen to think its great cause It was my first choise and thats what I got. My 2c.

It doesn't have the spoiler so that really makes it look wierd.

The rear bumper looks too short or something. Like it got rear ended, I think it missing the spoiler your eyes just got right to that shroty bumper.
