06 - Air Conditioning Slow to Cool

I have a 06 4Runner and recently noticed that the AC is slow to cool off and does not get nearly as cold as it once did. I have not noticed a blinking AC light as mentioned by others associated to relay. I have noticed that if I turn the blower speed down to 1 or 2 the air coming out is cooler. I also noticed that if I turn the AC to Off and then turn it back on the air is initially cold but warms up. I plan to check the coolant level this afternoon but was curious if I should be taking it into Toyota for a more complete check?

The other day I went to my local autoparts store and bought an "a/c freon recharger" for $21.00. With my paint being black, it took a long time for my car to cool off, before. After the freon recharge, it blows much cooler after the engine has warmed up. I would recommend doing this before doing any other more expensive alternatives.

Thank you for the reply SMEE - do you have any concern that there is a bigger problem given the leaking coolant? I assumed I could add coolant but I am not sure what the long term impact might be of only band-aiding the problem. Or...is it common to need to add coolant every 5-6 years/100k miles?

If you haven't already, make sure to replace your cabin air filter behind your glovebox. Also, make sure your air passages under the hood at the window line are free from leaves and other obstructions.

If your AC light is blinking and only cooling periodically, it could be the famous faulty relay. That's an easy $25 fix. Plenty of threads on here that show how to do that too.
