06 Limited Air Suspension Stuck

Hey All,

Been a lurker for awhile but have always been able to find what I need. I have had several 4th gens but my latest is giving me some troubles. It's an 06 Limited (in Canada) with 160,000 kms.

The air suspension is stuck in the highest position possible (higher than the high setting on families other ltds).

-I can use the height control button to basically turn the compressor on and off (in high, compressor stays on and never sees the high setpoint)
-In neutral, compressor is off and remains jacked up.
-In low, nothing happens (no exhausting of air).

My thought was sensors need adjusting - adjust the sensors either full up, full down or full opposite and all that changes is the setting at which the compressor will kick on. If full up, the compressor will remain on in all (low, neutral, high) settings. If full down, the compressor will only remain on for the "high" setting.

All these changes make no PHYSICAL change in ride height. We are talking something like 13" above tire on a stock 06 LTD. My 04 LTD sat around 7" above the tire iirc.

Going through the diagnostics manual, it says you can check a variety of voltages. Done, all looks good. So that leaves us at manual bypass:

You can manually override the solenoid valves by jumpering power to them and bypassing the ECU.

I have bypass both left and right pneumatic cylinder solenoids AS WELL AS the exhaust solenoid valve so all are open. NO MOVEMENT on suspension, no exhausting of gas (compressor off). The only solenoid I cannot get to is the valve to the pneumatic tank but it looks like that is on it's own branch of line vs the l/r cylinders/bags (whatever you want to call them).

So - summary: There's a sensor issue (not "reaching" setpoint) BUT the only conclusion I can come to about why, when the valves are all manually jumpered open on the suspension not lowering is that there is a physical obstruction in the line.

Am I missing something? Does anyone have an easy way for disconnecting the airlines (manual mentions a special tool that clearly I will not have).

Hoping the community can help me out.

Jesse

Just a thought. Check to see that the shocks aren't over-extended and 'locked' in the fully extended position. Also, can you feel the air bag springs to see if they are actually fully inflated?

Is this actually a thing? This is a definite possibility as it is seriously jacked right up. I didnt know that they had a over-extended lock thing.

The bags are DEFINITELY fully inflated. There is a touch of bounce but it is ROCK hard. Like driving a tank.

I don't think there are actual locks when fully extended, but it is possible that they could become jammed in the fully extended position if the air springs were over inflated. And, I would again suggest that you physically check the air springs to see if they are actually what is making the suspension that "ROCK" hard. If the shocks did actually become jammed in the fully extended position, then the air springs may be trying to deflate, but the 'stuck' shocks are keeping the rear suspension in the 'lifted' position and not the air springs.

Hopefully forum member ARK_SWAMP_RIDER can help you out - he is likely the most knowledgeable member that I know of on this subject.

I also ran into the same problem that you seem to have (as I described in this thread):

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-g...-v8-limited-owners-air-suspension-issues.html

I did go through this thread and while similar, I just don;t understand why manually forcing the valves open the suspension will not go down - unless as was stated that there is a shock over-extension lock/safety.

Fair enough, I'll take a look. Though if it's stuck, now really too sure how to get it back down apart from pulling parts.
