'06 - Neglected Maintenance Schedule

Bad owner here. 70k miles. I have had regular oil changes, tire rotations and air filter replaced as necessary...nothing else.

I would like to give it some TLC with my tax refund. Any suggestions on what service I should get done (at the dealer)?

Take it to the dealer and have them look it over.

Oh yea, dont blame Toyota for unreliable cars when it leaves you stranded somewhere.

Replace spark plugs, cabin air filter, check serpentine belt for cracks etc., check brake pads, check fluid levels, lube drive shaft "U" joints and yoke. Anything I missed? Please chime in.

Radiator flush, tranny, rear and differential fluid changes; can't recall if the 4th gens need wheel bearing service and at what frequency.

Might as well get the timing belt now so you dont neglect that too.

Rad flush isn't scheduled until 100k and the tranny and diffs don't have a scheduled maintenance schedule (at least for my 04). It's check and replace is necessary, not that it hurts to do it anyway.

Might as well get the timing belt now so you dont neglect that too.

V6's don't have a belt, they have a chain.

Front & Rear Diff as the other folks have noted but go with a nice synthetic fluid just in case another 70,000 passes again. Also, get the brake calipers checked as there have been a couple of threads regarding the calipers freezing and some pin not being covered by warranty.

Don't forget the center differential, too.

Take it to the dealer and have them look it over.

Just don't take it in and tell them to service it!!! They will upsell everything they can and you will walk out with a $1000+ bill.

Like others:
Front & Rear Diff & Transfer Case/Center Diff - although not required in the maintenence guide unless you spend alot of time towing, it is not a bad Idea.

Serpentine belt - Approx. $30 and 15 mins. with a friend makes it easier.

Definitely check brakes all the way around, mine still had 20%+ pad left @ 70k on my 04 but I replaced them anyway.

NO TIMING BELT on the V-6, the timing chain is maintenence free.

Coolant replacement is not required until 100k or 5 years which ever comes first, then every 50k or 5 years after that.

Spark Plugs!!!! They are required to be changed every 30k to maintain your emissions warranty. Change those for sure.

Wheel Bearings - I believe they are a seal until, Bearing/Hub assembly and there is no way to service them 4WD or 2WD.

If you are not sure if the drive shaft u-joints and slip-joints were lubed when you had the oil changed make sure you check those also.
