06 Scion HU and 2001 4Runner question.

Ok guys, i bought a 2006 Scion HU, the one with the MP3 and Satalite ready, im sure you are aware of this model. I have a 2001 4Runner SR5 with the factory double DIN HU. I got my Scion HU yesterday, and the stock harness plug from the dash doesnt fit the Scion HU. Does any place sell an adapter to fit the Scion HU to the factory harness? The harness plug is larger then the plug for the HU, but its still a 20 pin connector. Please tell me there is a way to connect them and hook it up, thanks guys.

Follow the harness and see if you can find an amp. I think most 3rd gens have external amps. Most Toyota amps will have a 6pin and a 10pin input on one side and the 20 pin output on the other. Just unplug the 6 and 10 pin plugs from the amp and plug them into the Scion unit.

Hmm, imma have to check that out, there is an Amp, or what looks to be an amp directly behind the HU, where the harness comes out of. So are you saying plug the harness wires going into the amp directly into the Scion HU, and bypassing the amp all together?

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying. The Scion headunit already has an internal amp, so you don't need 2 of them.

Update:

tkr128 was right, unplug the 2 plugs that go into your amp, and plud straight into the Scion HU. Trim the metal flap so you can get the other antenna wire plugged in and your set. You will have to trim a little of the dash bezel to fit it around the HU, small amount on the left and right of it, the top and bottom are perfect. It sounds soo much clearer, louder, and more bass to it. Taking me a little bit to get used to the controls, but i love that MP3 feature! Thanks again tkr128!

Jay, Can you post any photos of this mod? I am a bit concerned about the trimming part. I saw one poster who trimmed the stereo itself, sounds like you trimmed the dash. How does it look and what method did you use for trimming?

stella, i havent trimmed the bezel yet, it was dark when i finaly got it installed, and had to go to my fiances family for dinner once i got it working. I will do it this weekend, and i will take pics of the process and post them up.

How did the final install go? Got any photos for us. I just purchased a 2006 scion HU and want to have it installed next weekend.

I would rather trim the HU then the dash... but I will need to see what the parts look like when they arrive.

I havent finished it, the bezel doesnt lock all the way down, there is a 1/4" gap on the sides where it meets the dash. I'll probably do it this weekend, been busy with other projects around the house. I'll get pics and document everything.

scion 06 hu on 1997 4runner

somebody help me on this...i ready got a xm radio on my 4runner 97' thas great...but when i see the oportunity to install this unit i bougth over e-bay for $200...
so my cuestion is ...if is compatible with GEXP920XM tuner.
and how to do it.
