My car is 2006 SR5 V6 with 2WD. I can't be 100% sure but it just doesn't feel as responsive as it did. I have had it about 19 months and 40,000 miles. It has been totally trouble free and I have really enjoyed my 1st Toyota but it just doesnt feel like it used to. It is almost like it boggs down a bit when you get on the gas. I have changed the plugs to NGK's and also done all oil changes with Mobil 1 Synthetic. Air filter is clean. Mileage has never been what I expected and it actually seems to have gotten a bit worse since the spark plug change. Average gas mileage is low 17's. It has only broken 20 on two tanks. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'd try changing the spark plugs again and put a bottle of RXP or another gas additive to clean out your cylinders. Have you recently switched to 10% ethenol gas?
If your engine's performance has changed, something in your engine has changed. My T4R is just like yours, but I have 1/2 the miles. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

Do you have new tires on the 4runner? are they larger? do they weigh more? if so this can slow you down esp at take off.

The engine and tranny ECU have a learning feature. Try pulling the ECU fuses (or the negative battery cable) for more than 1 minute. The truck will then relearn the fuel curve and shift points.
Also, not sure where you run it but is your tire pressure still where it was?

That mileage is nuts. My 4X4 V6 gets 23-24 hwy and 21-22 city (I'm not a lead foot). I'm inclined to agree Kmvreter.
Could it be the filter behind the air filter? Sooner (pun unintended) or later it seems that that thing will get funky. Tires, pressure and wear...will definitly affect mileage, not sure if it can be that much, though. Is it 'seasonal' issue?

I am a big fan of Seafoam. I have used it in all my vehicles and it even helps you pass an emmissions inspection if you are marginally failing due to high HC emmissions. Seafoam can be introduced three ways:
1 In the gas tank
2.In the crankcase
3. in the Intake through a vacuum line
I found option 3 the most effective. My response improved and the idle was much smoother and I gained about 2 MPG on the highway.
If you happen to use seafoam through a vacuum line don't be alarmed by the amount of white fog that will come out of the tailpipe it's normal.

I really don't think it could be your motor. It could be faulty plugs though, so swap out those plugs and go from there.

check plugs and wires. I only say this cuz you noticed this after changing the plugs. Maybe one plug is bad or the connection is bad. Retrace your routes from the last maintenance job and go from there.

If it's true, how the heck do you get 21-22 around the city? You must have a 50mph limit with no traffic lights or stop signs in the city you drive in. I'm lucky if I get 15mpg here in SF, but that's with stops signs or un-timed lights seemingly at every damn intersection.

Most of my driving, say 80% is hwy and I rarely drive over 70mph. When I do drive around the city, it's usually for only a day or two. I imagine living outside of a majpr city like SF, LA, Chicago, NYC would decrease my mpg's due to hihger speeds, more stop starts, etc.
