Will any of the OEM stereos available in the '06 SR5 4WDs play MP3 CDs?

I noticed in the manual and on the screen it says you can have it show text, like the artist or songname. I've tried original cds and burned cds but to no avail. Also checkmarked the "Include CD Text" in itunes when i burned it. Should i be burning using Audio CD format or MP3 CD format to get the text to pop up?
If you burn your own CD's as Audio CD's, then you have to use software other than Windows Media Player. Microsoft doesn't support the CD Text standard, so a CD created with WMP won't have the text information that the CD player is looking for. With other software, make sure you enable "CD Text" if necessary.
To burn your own CD's with MP3 files, just fill a plain old data disc with MP3 files. If you put them into folders, the radio will understand the folder structure. However, it does not understand playlists of any kind, so don't bother with that. With MP3 files, it gets the title, artist, etc., from the header in the MP3 file.

Thanks alot man, im off to try it right now! I didn't use Windows Media Player to burn it, i used iTunes (as an Audio CD) but i guess neither of them support the standard.
One thing i am confused about. Do i burn it as an MP3 CD or a Data CD. From your explaination i'm guessing data CD...

I've never used iTunes. I don't believe their standard format is MP3, is it? (I think it's AAC.) The Data CD option sounds like the way to go, but you may need to try the MP3 option if it has to convert the files to MP3 format first.
The Audio CD option should also work, although you'll get fewer songs per disc that way. MP3 is compressed considerably; that's the beauty of it.

Your correct, the default is AAC for importing(actually smaller files than mp3), but i have it switched to mp3 for wider compatibility. iTunes is just like any other media player (although not as powerful), but i have it for the good iPod compatibility. It's basically like windows media player with all the stupid apple codecs and formats on default.
Data CD did not work nor did MP3 CD. Audio was default and can only hold like 20 songs at 128kbps but that didn't work either. What program are you using?
p.s. i converted all to mp3 before burning.
I don't want to waste another disc, just wondering what program you are using.
if this is any help, inserting the cd gives No error message and only 1 track. No text names and the track goes on with no sound forever. All mp3 formatted songs have ID3 tags with artist name and track.

edit: i read around on the net and found that iTunes is supposed to be able to, but im downloading winamp right now as that was another alternative. In addition, windows media play was noted as a flawed cd-text burner like you said.

If you have a bunch of MP3 files and Windows XP, then you can also use the built-in CD writing function in Windows. Windows data CD's work fine - the only problem with Microsoft is WMP and the CD Text on an Audio CD.
Be sure to finalize the data CD (don't make it multi-session), and also use CD-R discs. I don't know if a CD-RW will cause problems or not.

Yep i will finilaize and i'm also using a CD-R.
i will let winamp finish the burn and hopefully it doesnt eat my disc
EDIT: winamp failed. trying windows bult in function now. using the data cd option can i put on 700mb worth if the advertising on the cd is correct?
CANNOT COMPLETE THE CD WRITING WIZARD in data disc mode, twice. POS told me to try again. yay more paperweights.
tried the cd writing wizard one more time on data disc mode and it worked although it would not play in the 4runner. Same symptoms as data disc in itunes, no title, unlimited time, 1 track.
could you give me the instructions on exactly how to get it to work in Nero 8? or any other suggestions within windows. Thanks

Sounds like you might have a hardware problem with the CD burner. The WinXP CD wizard should work. Drag files onto the CD drive, and then right-click the drive icon and "Write files to disc", and follow the wizard. Yes, it will put 700 MB of files on one CD, making the data mode much nicer than Audio CD's.
With Nero, you can use the Nero Express wizard to burn a data disc. Add files to the disc, turn off multisession, and burn.

and ya i tried the WinXP CD wizard 3 times. Two times it failed completely. One time it worked. Putting the disc into computers shows the audio files, id3 tags, etc. Putting it into the 4runner gives you no sound, name, unlimited track length, 1 track.

I used nero express and the same thing happened. Pressed TEXT, "no title"; pressed next track only one track, turned up the volume, no sound.
Added files to the data CD section of nero express. Skipped label making. Unchecked the 2nd option "allow files to be added later multisession), but the 1st option was unchecked on default. Should i check that? Also made sure i had the text option, indeed on that cd headunit thing it says like compact disk and text underneath the logo.

I thought about this a little bit, and then I finally noticed your sig - you've got a 2005. If you have an OEM stereo, it doesn't support MP3 files. That feature was new for 2006.
You'll have to stick with Audio CD's only, but Nero should be able to handle that for you. Use the wizard to make a Music - Audio CD; add tracks to it, and then on the last page you can give the disc an overall title and artist. It will automatically pull the track titles and artists from the MP3 file tags.
