06 & up fog light question

When I look in there , there is a phillips screw holding a deflector for the light bulb which obviously deflects the light so its not straight out.

Am I correct ?? or what does it actually do ?

Coming from the vehicle I came from these fogs are pretty nice and bright and light up the road in front of the vehicle nicely and even out to the sides which is also nice since I live out in the country.

Has anyone removed that deflector ? what kind of difference does it make ??

I did do a foglight search , but mostly got the switch fix thing.

I hears of something here once about squirrel finders or something which I though has to do with the foglights ?

Squirrel finders are on the cut off shield of halogen projectors. Instead of it being a striaght line cut off with a step, there's a notch/flap with a slight bend on the cut off sheild. The purpose of the squirrel finder is light up overhead signs. HID projectors do not have squirrel finders due the intensity of the light and the glare it would create. Thus PnP HIDs in a halogen setup is frowned upon by many.

On the reflector cap for the fogs, I think it's set up like most low beams. Light hits the cap first and then reflects on the reflector bowl from behind before it goes out to the ground. Many say this is why lowbeams aren't very effective because of the reflector cap. I think without that cap, the fogs wouldn't be as focused and the beam would be more scattered. Probably brighter though.
