07 4Runner Sport Stock Tires....

I just bought a 07 4Runner sport and it comes with Dunlop AT20 Grandtrek tires. In researching them pretty much everyone says they suck as far as reviews go. Im gonna be driving 40,000 miles a year in some brutal weather during the winter, should I look into buying some better tires?

What would fit my vehicle? 17" rims, 265mm/65, I don't even know what those numbers mean but I think those are the specs.

I also really like the raised white lettering, so if you have any suggestions please please let me know, I haven't gotten to drive my 4Runner yet cause I had to go out of town, and I wasn't insured right when i bought it....I'M SOOOOOO PUMPED!!!

I don't wanna waste the tread on the BFG's on regular highway driving. Will the BFG's be adequate for winter driving? Or should I get studs? Will studs wear out too quick with all my highway driving?

The dunlops ain't great but for highway driving they're not that bad either. However, if you can get the dealer (or a tire shop) to swap them out while they're still new I would do that.

If you'll mainly be driving on road I would not bother with the Revos or any other AT tire. Instead get Goodyear Forteras, Michelin Crossterrains, Bridgestone Dueler Alenzas, or some other highly-rated, all-season highway tire.

what about the Nitto Terra Grappler? How they compare with the BFG's? I have the BFG's on my Jeep Grand Cherokee for the last 4 years and know how they perform.

The stock tire, Dunlops are ok for a stock depending on your driving style, your Dunlops should give you a good tread life out of it \, just check it visually and decide if it needs replacement. Having the Dunlops for summer tire and a good set of tire for winter, is not a bad idea except, you have to switch back n forth.

Search some more about Tires, there's plenty of threads going on, and decide which one to get. i am still on Dunlops at 14k, maybe 10k or more before i switch to something better.

I also do 40K per year on my 06 v6 sport and I did put on a better tire for the winter in the stock size 265/65/17 and I have no regrets in doing so.

I did just put back on the Dunlops for the summer to wear them out.

You don't need to spend big $$$ to get a great tire I went with a set of Mastercraft A/T-2 tires in the stock size and im quite pleased with them. I just got tired of paying the big$$$ for tires that were not any better esp in the snow and wearing them out so fast.

I will be driving in snow during the winter, and I got a pretty good price on Cooper discoverer ATR's at about $600 out the door... plus the place has a deal that you pay $180 one time lifetime payment and you recieve a oil change, oil filter change, tire rotation, inflation and alignment for $5 dollars every 3000 miles.... does this sound like a good deal. I figure with the miles im putting on, It will save me a load of cash over time.

danpecka .......... I live in western MA. and I cover CT and NY for a sales area. And I go out rain snow or shine over some areas that are not plowed to good at all. "some of the hill towns are never plowed well"

Cooper ATR's are a real good tire I was going to get them but at the time the correct size was back orderd in my size (They were on strike early in 06) but they have a real good tread depth and I think a "T" speed rating on them. Just the other day I asked a guy how he liked them on his Jeep Grand Ch... and he said he thought they were a great tire "quiet, real good in the snow, and they seam to wear well" I may get them as a next tire myself.

I would stay away from a heavy tread A/T tire the noise and the ride will wear on you after a while. "we are not just driving to the corner store and back"

Wear the D-flops threw the summer and then get the coopers for the winter and if the D-flops have any life left next summer put them back on to wear them out.

That other deal you talked about does not sound so bad I would think about that.
