07 limited. 59k miles. all road.
wont engage in 4wheel drive.
dealer says its a soleniod. wants 675.00
for install
.and its not part of the 60kmil warrenty for
the drive train.
also part is on backorder so it seems they must have
a probelm with the switch.
any help would be appreceated.

I'd read your warranty booklet very closely, as that will spell out exactly what is covered, and what isn't. For the record I don't have a 4th gen 4Runner, so I don't know what your warranty booklet actually says.

I did have a less than ethical Dealer try to tell me that the U-joints that were needed in a '93 SR5 4x4 truck I used to own, weren't covered by the drivetrain warranty. I had to get the warranty booklet out, and show them that they were indeed covered by the drivetrain warranty.

I've never been back to that Dealer since then. I have often wondered how many customers they have ripped off by claiming something wasn't covered, when it actually was...

That's interesting... I would try another dealership. In my mind the powertrain doesn't work properly, it won't go into 4wd. The powertrain is covered until 60k.

You didn't spill cans of Coke on the 4wd switch. They need to fix it.

Good luck! Please report back.

re

tks folks,
i agree. i would think that 4wd is part of the drive train.
thats why we bought it. going to get the ole warrenty book out.
ill keep everybody posted.

:iagree: with 02SE and CJ3Flyr.

Speak with Customer Relations Manager at you the dealership. If that does not help, you can try calling Toyota Customer Service 800-331-4331.

re

tks snhrph
we were so busy the last few days. i didnt have time to
discuss with them. part should be in next wk.
reading the warr.book it states: transmission and transaxle
case and all intenal parts.
iam not much of a wrench turner. but i would assume that a
soleniod would be internal ?

My understanding is that the solenoid is internal.

When the 4Runner is purchased either new or certified used the warranty must state if it is 2WD or 4WD for this very reason. Since you have an established relationship hopefully it will work out.
