07 build up

I'm Slowly going to be building up my 2007 SR5 4wd 4.0L v6 and ill be adding things to it here for a personal build thread and reference for whatever. Im not going to go crazy and most things are going to be semi cheap.

Heres what i started off with:
07 4runner with 60k bought 10/2010

V6 makes plenty of power for me. Heres a trip to pismo carrying a dual axle diamond plated trailer with a friends fj40 with a 350ci. My truck stacked with wood and the fj sacked with wood. (Had a weight distribution hookup on the trailer though)

Wheels and tires

bought some 17" xd addicts Brand new and got a homeboy hook up at $650 out the door. Then mounted them on some slightly used 255/75 17 bfg mud terrains from a jeep rubicon ($200). Did this to figure out if I was going to stick with this tire size.

YES they rub at stock height. I drove it around for a day until I got my lift

bought a 3" Toy Tec lift $400 +shipping

Tried to reuse the stock shocks but I now have 81k and I realized I should probably replace the shocks as well. Called around and 4wheel parts had a set for $110 each in stock.

Thanks guys. Crazy weekend but Here are a few pics. Ill get some today after she gets a bath.

Heres the difference between the old fronts and the new fronts

Here's a pic after doing the front. Note the dude bro so cal rake on flat ground. The bilsteins have 3 notches Factory ride Height, 1" lift and 2" lift. I ran with the lowest notch on the shock because if I was to go up any higher I would need a dif drop. I have a feeling I'll be setting it higher eventually.

The Instructions are already covered here, however if I could add anything to it, it would be a little more detailed on the rear installiation.
1.DISCONNECT THE SWAY BAR AND SHOCKS.
2.Jack the rear up as high as you can go, put jack stands on the FRAME and then connect a set of rented autozone spring compressors. Tighten by and then slowly lower the suspension.
3. When it drops all the way the springs should fall out or just about fall out.
4. Compress new springs, put the bumpstop in and jack up the rear untill you can loosly remove the spring compressors
this will save you a lot of time and frustration.


also on the fronts, I couldnt get the control arm to drop down far enough to put the shock in place, I found it worked great by lifting the spindle up and putting a small piece of 2x4 between the spindle and the Lower Control arm and when I pressed down on the spindle I got enough room to persuade the shock in place. I realize this is not the proper way of doing things, however it kept my CV's from being over extended and nothing was harmed in the process.

nice. you dont necessarily need a diff drop right away. the 4runner stock cv angles are angled up so i think you would be good. any finished pics yet? looks good so far

Satoshi Grill coming next. Im leaving the outter grill chrome and the handles chrome because i think it flows with the wheels nicely. And they were the reason I chose those wheels.

awesome! looks so good. satishi will be bad. heres an opinion since your leaving all the chrome after the satoshi put 'TOYOTA' in the center but in "chrome". that will be sick

i think im going to take the blue and chrome //TRD logo and put it in the lower corner. Always have to have to be slightly different I guess. Thanks for the compliments

Ive been working on some other projects around here but while my 67 cadi is in the shop getting painted, I decided to do a little work on the t4r

Ripped the dash out, removed the sirius radio that was in the truck when I bought it (what a hack job that was)

Had to rip the entire dash and center console out but it all pretty much just clips in. Oh ya the speed sensor wire or vss wire I forgot to get a pic of but its behind the glove box. Theres 4 or 5 clusters of wires coming out of the ecu and its the second from the bottom block. purple and white wire on the left side about the 3rd wire down.

installed a pioneer avic x930bt. Dvd, Nav, Bluetooth, all that rubbish

got a doner grill off ebay and decided to hack it, waiting to find the right mesh but Ill start the fiberglass and bondo tomorrow, then I gotta take off to vegas. When I get back next week, I got some more tricks up my sleeve

I used an expanded sheet that I picked up from amazon for the grille.

It was really enough to do about 5 of these grilles but I couldn't find a smaller piece and it was still cheaper (and MUCH stronger) than customcargrills.com

Love it. I have the fronts set at "stock" height on the 5100s. (the coils already gave it the 3" of lift) It says I can go up 2" inches but it rides better than stock as it is right now so why change it.

Thanks for the link on that grill mesh. im checking it out now. I knew there had to be some sort of inexpensive option out there.

I ordered a preforated sheet. I love the look of 01-06 Denali grills so Ill see how it comes out. I just dont want it to look cheesy.

with the lift, how is off road performance? I love your ride. Ours are very similar! V6, 4WD, SR5, 2007, Nautical Blue. Love it. Are you making the new grill color keyed? or black? or sticking with chrome? I am excited to see the final product. I'v been considering the same thing.

The MAJOR problem I have is the traction control. They got the new trans in 07 and anytime there is any sort of wheel slip it cuts all power and wont accellerate. I take it to pismo (sand dunes) quite a bit and I have a hard time because if I floor it through the sand and it slips the tires it will cut the power for a sec and eventually if i keep slipping the tires it will just stop.
In the mud it does good, but I still cant kick it sideways or anything like that because of the traction control.

My grill is going to stay chrome on the outside and black in the middle. No sense in messing up the chrome. Plus I already have a car in paint, no need to have another one there. The reason I got the wheels machine and black is to match the chrome handles and chrome grill so the chrome and black grill should fit perfectly.
