07 jbl head unit in 04 sr5?

Hey can anyone help me?... My friend gave me his brand new jbl head unit out of his 07 sport edition. I was wondering if anyone knows if i can replace my stock 04 head unit with the 07 jbl?

Only if you currently have the JBL system. If you don't, then no; at least not without the external amplifier.

I was actually wondering the same thing. Why is it that you need an external amp? I mean 3 speakers less than the JBL system...wouldn't that mean less power? Sorry I'm just confused. I was also looking in to swapping out my stock 05 hu with broken CD player for a JBL 6 disc changer. If it's not possible I'm going to stop researching this and just go aftermarket.
