07 Limited 4x4 Mx and general questions

I searched and found some valuable info but I didnt find these few answers... This is a maintenance question but its a 4Gen specific, so, not sure where it goes...

I have a 07 Limited 4x4 (amazing truck) w/ 15k miles and Im curious about:

1.) Cleaning the cabin air filters. I live in the desert and the everyone says to clean the cabin air filter at 15k and replace the in-take airfilter also.

How do you clean the cabin air filter? Just blow it out with compressed air?? I see there is a mod to use a DIY example (http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29963&perpage=15&pagenumber=1) but does this really work?

2.) Rotate tires every 5k... Do you all do this yourself b/c I couldnt find how to reset the TPS sensor. the first rotate was performed by a dealer. The second was at Walmart - which was a huge mistake because it took them several hours to reset them.

I have tired to follow the steps in the owners manual - but its not reseting the sensors.

3.) At any driving speed on a somewhat descent paved road, my front passenger seat (while un-occupied and not the bottom part, the back portion of the seat) seems to shake a little bit. Maybe .5 of an inch forward and back. I checked the bolts and it seems to be tight. I think that its just from vibration but no other part on the vehicle seems to be effected as much as the seat.

I took it into the stealer-ship and they drove another 4R and said that its a common problem... Is this true?

Hey Andrew, welcome to the club

1. I essentially do the same as the prev response, tap it out, blow it out with low pressure compressed air, and replace at least yearly

2. I had the stealer do it until I replaced my tires, now I have big O do it, no probs with the TPS system, they know what they are doing, most tire shops will now. TPS has been about for a few years.

3. Seat shaking. Nope, mine does a lot of dirt rough roads in summer here during deer season, my passenger front seat does not shake like yours. there must be something loose, try the floor bolts, becuase the further from the loose point the seat back is, the more pronounced the shaking would be

I was going to rotate the tires my self. Do I need a reset tool or what do the shops use/do?

I might be wrong in saying this, so please someone else chim in, if you know more about TPS

The TPS system (my understanding) is it measures and reports what each tires pressure is. Not where on the car that tire is. The system will only tell you, that you have a low pressure tire, not which one is low.

I rotated my own (18'') tires awhile ago, it had no effect on my TPS system, it did not alarm, or indicate any issue.

I dont have TPS installed on my off road rims with the mud terrains, so it is always displaying an alarm when i have them on.

The only reason that I think that is...

Recently, I had my 5 tires rotated at Walmart and they were stuck for hours on how to get the light off.

My reasoning is that each sensor is has a keyed position on the vehicle and rotating tires would throw the sensor as the tires have been moved from thier position in which they were stored by the computer.

Please let me know if I am wrong...

Hm... well I will try to rotate myself and see what happens.

But I wouldnt be suprised if the workers at walmart are complete idiots...

I've rotated mine several times; no issues. Do you have a Navi? Does it show 'live' tire pressure for each wheel? That would be the only reason I can see that would require a reset of TPMS when doing a rotaion. On my old Titan I just took my label maker and numbered each rim. That way I could easily figure out which tire was low after I did my DIY rotation.

The cabin filter is worth cleaning. The element removes easily. I've actually washed mine as it's a synthetic fiber rather than paper. Many go to the Home Depot/Lowe's and buy a 3m Filtrete house filter. You can cut 4-6 cabin filters from one Filtrete home furnace filters.

Haven't replaced the cabin filter yet. The engine air filter, I usually pull it out and hold it up to light, if it doesn't pass through I replace it.

The TPMS isn't that sophiscated on the 4Runner (at least not on my '06). It will trigger the TPMS light on the dash if any one of the five wheels is less than 26.5 or 27.5 PSI. It's does not know which tire is and there's no reset for it. Check your spare and make sure it's not low on air, could be a coincident after the rotation.

The 2006 nav does not report actual PSI. The only thing remotely related to tires is a reset for new tires, so the accuracy (probably for dead reckoning) isn't thrown off dramatically.

I don't have any issues with either front seat yet. I have read some experience a slight movement, squeak or popping with the driver's seat. I don't think their issue is specific to power or manual seats.

I just had my tires rotated by my local tire shop and no sensor problems here.

They also rotated them for free, as it is their policy not to charge for rotation of tires on a new vehicle. One for the little man. Go figure

The TPMS isn't that sophiscated on the 4Runner (at least not on my '06).

It isn't any more sophisticated in the '08s either. There's no where in the computer or Nav Sys that I've found that allows a real-time view of the individual tire pressures (like is found in numerous other autos, my wife's '07 Monte Carlo SS for instance).

I read the manual, and they try to scare you to death about dealing with the TPMS deal, but as best I can tell, the vehicle does not know nor report which wheel is at what position. Therefore, I'd think a simple rotation would not require any sort of reset.

I do like that it monitors the spare though. While my wife's car gives a real-time readout of the pressures of her 4 mounted wheels/tires through the computer/DIC, it does not monitor her spare.
