'07 NAV is in! A few questions though.

After a few hours of consternation, the '07 NAV from oemvalue is in our '05 Limited with JBL sound . I have posted some steps here. They are by no means all encompassing but hopefully they can supplement the information here on the forums. All appears to be working but I cannot verify the speed sensor wire since I don't have the voice nav going yet. This leads me to my first question:

I know I need to run a cable between the HU and the AMP to enable this and I have seen that the AMP is in the back rear. Is there a connector closer to the HU that I use to run this wire? I would LOVE to avoid running one all the way back to the amp. If there is a connector, where is it?

The next item is to add XM to this but that may happen a little further down the line.

I can speak for a 2006 Limited 4runner that I just completed a full install from a JBL 6 Disc to a E7009 Nav HU including all Voice activation functions and rearview camera.

No connector is available for the amp connection to drive the voice to the drivers door speaker. Here is some text that I sent to Troy at OEMValue to include in the install instructions on his website for the voice speaker to work like OEM.

An external amplified speaker is not required to be added if you run the differential wire pair with shield (IVO+ -> INT+, IVO- -> INT-, & SLD1) between the Navigation head unit and the stereo amp (PN# 86280-0W420). I used Radio Shack two conductor with shielded wire (Catalog #: 278-513 ) and this worked great. This allows for Voice Activation volume control while properly using the OEM Driver's door speaker. FYI, two drawbacks of an external speaker was a popping noise when powered up and no volume control through head unit for Voice responses.

Again, this refers to a 2006 Limited 4Runner with JBL 6-disc pre-installed, built Feb. 06

Besides adding wires to the amp, the voice navigation also requires a Mic. I went with a factory type MIC that was integrated in the overhead console unit p/n #63670-0W0800B0 (this is a new console that includes Mic, homelink, moonroof in slate) and plugs into a unused connector in the headliner. I still had to run wires from the lower drivers kickpanel to the E7009 HU to make it work, but it works very well.

As for a button to activate the voice controls, I added the right side factory steering wheel controls p/n 84244-35030-B0 which requires ribbon cable p/n 84204-58010. This has a button to initiate a voice command and the two bluetooth (phone) functions.

An alternative is to go with the Japanese Voice command microphone p/n 86750-44020 which has a mic & button which is less expensive if you don't care about it looking like OEM.

By the way, I also have a factory Sirius kit installed, but haven't activated it yet to see how it works.

Any responses are very welcome.

I was not looking for a direct tap to the drivers door speaker but the connection between the IVO HU connections and the AMP connections as you did. I am looking for a closer place to FIND the AMP connections so I don't have to run the cable all the way to the rear. I am trying to get the voice OUTPUT going now so we can hear the navigational prompts.

I will add the Microphone at a future time once my wife gets used to all this extra stuff. Also I will add the steering wheel controls too.
 
I understand your question. I was referring to the wires between the HU and Amp which is called the differential wire pair with shield (IVO+ -> INT+, IVO- -> INT-, & SLD1). The amp controls what is driven to the driver's door so wires to this speaker does not need to be changed or added, just to the amp as you indicated.

In my 2006, no wires existed, even part of the way to the passenger side kick panel connector #IO2 (pins 37,39,&40) which is the large 43 pin connector with a bolt through it. I had to run the wires the entire length from HU to AMP.

Also, the terminals in the amp connector S22 for pins 22 &23 are very small and a unique style for toyota.

OK. I think it is more clear now. Looks like a fun thing to get to the amp also. I will psych myself up to do this this weekend. I will keep the board posted.

Trying to get voice working

Finally got back to trying to get voice working. I hooked up the two wires to the amp on Sat. Sunday I got the HU out and attached the 3 wires to the back of the HU. I also put in an XM addon while I was at it.

Here is the problem. I have no sound. It was difficult to find a way to get the wires in the connector. I had no individual connectors to attach to the wires that would fit in the large 20 pin connector. So I stripped off insulation and folded the wire over and stuck it in. It appeared the wires were right near the opening. I wire-tied them together so I would hope they would not come out. It seems that one or more of them are not making contact.

The big question, where can I find the prongs that will work in that 20 pin connector? What have the successful users done for their connections? (Enquiring minds want to know)
 
i got the voice controls, p/n 84244-35030-B0 and ribbon cable p/n 84204-58010. after i installed them. voice and bluetooth work great, but it didn't light up when i turned on the headlight. did i do something wrong here?

i also got the japan mic. it's distort...how can i fix this problem?
 
Here is the latest in trying to get the voice navigation working. Maybe I just don't understand somethings. I have run the wire from the HU to the JBL amp. I got the correct pins from Toyota to fit in the connectors. I connected it like this:

Amp S11-22 -> HU R13-12
Amp S11-23 -> HU R13-11
shield -> HU R13-13

I checked continuity on the wire and it is fine. I am hoping to hear the voice turn by turn prompting. Here is where I may be thinking wrong. I do not have the steering wheel buttons (voice and bluetooth) installed nor a microphone. Are these prerequisites for the voice prompting? I thought I would be able to hear without those extra pieces? Am I wrong in thinking this?

I tried swapping the connectors also.

Another question is if I have the pins in the right place on the Amp S11 connector. I will try to describe it.

Looking at the amp with the connectors attached, the larger connector is on the left. S11 is to the right. The large connector is numbered:
Row1 - 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1
Row2 - ... 12 11 10

Therefore the S11 connector would be numbered:
Row1 - 12 11 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1
Row2 - 24 23 22 21 20 18 ...

I have the wires in the bottom row of S11, the second and third from the left. Very confusing, I know.

Any ideas?
 
With your description as best as I can tell, you have added the correct shielded differential wire pair to the amp to drive the voice over the left drivers door speaker. I would suggest adding the Mic and button. I don't know if this makes a difference, but I did all of this at the same time and it worked. Also, Did you put a jumper between pins R10-12 (TSW-)and R10-18(SGND)?

What was the PN of the AMP? My '2006 JBL amp worked when I added the Int +/- wires, but a '05 amp may be different.

I would also be interested in the OEM PN# for the S22 pins. My Toyota Wire Repair manual did not list PNs for this connector (PN#90980-12554).

FYI, My '07 Solara E7009 system from OEMValue is fully functional (I have factory sirrius install but not activated yet and I don't have a Rear Entertainment System) and has been working flawlessly for 4 months in my '06 4Runner. I even swapped LEDs to get amber buttons in the HU.
 
I did not put in any jumpers. What would those jumpers do?

Don't know the P/N of the amp. I may be taking off the side again soon. I will know then.

I checked my notes... The Pin 12 to Pin 18 jumper is required to get the MIC to work properly. This is probably not related to the Voice wiring through the AMP.

By the way, the Harmon/Becker JBL AMP in my '06 Limited 4Runner is PN# 86280-0W420. Adding the shielded differential wire pair worked for voice on this amp.
 
I am trying to get back on track with this. My wife is not happy that there is no voice guidance (that is voice output).

I do have the wires between the HU and the amp (hopefully in the right spots). Is there any voltages, signals, etc. that I can check with a voltmeter to see if anything is even getting to the amp?

How difficult is this task? Do pre-wires exist in steering wheel? Some have mentioned possible replacment of air bag or steering wheel cover as part of the process. Is this necessary? How much did the parts set you back?

Sorry, we no longer have the 4Runner so I stupidly removed the steps. Let me see about putting them back.
