07 SE - Question about brakes

I own 07 SE 2WD. I have about 10300 miles since the purchase. I took my car to stealer and got oil change and things. (My 2nd time, every 5k miles)

The tech told me I have 10mm of front brake pads and 6mm of rear and suggest that I change the rear brakes.

10k miles on this car... already brakes going bad? I just drive on the freeway in socal, no hard driving or braking... just drive and commute with this truck....

Dont know if I should trust this tech...

The factory service manual says that the front pads started at 11.5 mm and the rears at 10.0 mm. The minimums are 1.0 mm, so there's still plenty of life in those pads.

It sounds a bit strange to me that the rears are wearing that much faster than the fronts, but maybe that's how it's designed. Others can probably add some more experienced comments.

I have a 2006 Sport Edition. At 23,000 I had 60% left in my front and 50% left in my rear. There was no need to replace. You do seem to be going through breaks faster than me, but you still don't need new ones yet.

Thanks for the info guys. How often is it that these dealers lie to customers? It was Miller Toyota of Culver City in SOCAL.... I cant trust anyone... wish i knew where to service my car...

Dealers lie, ahem, stretch the truth, quite a bit.
They don't seem to get the idea that if they ran things such that they developed a good relationship with the customer, that one customer would keep coming back for many little things. Instead, they try to talk you into one big service bill so they can make a quick buck now. That's what's wrong with this country - no investment in the future, only the maximum amount of money today.

You live near or in LA - there's a million places to go. I was more near Ontario/Riverside, but there are sure to be places where you are.

Start asking around, check the Better Business Bureau website for complaints.

It's best to have a place in mind or checked out before something goes wrong.

Just a quick note I have over 40,000 on my 05 4x4 v6 and still have stock pads that are still over 6mm and i have and extra 270 lbs on the front with a ARB bumper and winch.

Service departments (not dealers) are doing anything they can to boost revenues. Look for this to continue as they will try to nickle and dime everyone for parts and work, and provide less customer service than what should be expected.
