07 traction control not working, engine light on

Just ran into an interesting problem. Driving on icy roads and my traction control indicator lights all lit up as well as the check engine light. I put it from 4hi to 2wd and all lights stayed on. The traction control was completely disengaged in both 4wd and 2wd. We actually lost control shortly thereafter, just about hitting the ditch. We then came across somebody who was stuck and helped pull them out, but with the differential locked we didn't have much traction and the front driver side tire was not spinning at all.

So, we've got issues. The traction control isn't working with the differential not locked and the differential doesn't appear to be locking at all. Scary incident today, and the first time I've been disappointed in how our 4runner operated.

Any ideas on what might be wrong? I assume the engine/traction lights all being on at once are related, but nit sure what the issue is. Any others with this problem in the past?!

I have also now noticed that the oil pressure light is coming on when I start the vehicle and goes off when I depress the brake pedal to shift out of park. Checked oil and the level is perfect. Had oil changed about 2000 miles ago. Is this related?

is the abs light also lit? it could be as simple as a zero point calibration, or you may end up getting a p0500 code, which is a faulty speed sensor. id say either get it read by a mechanic or the dealer or whomever, or go disconnect the negative battery cable and let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour, reconnect, and see what happens

Nothing with the ABS light yet. The fact that the diff lock and VSC aren't working makes me think it's a bigger problem that just a sensor. Could it be snow build up?!

Yup, disconnecting the battery worked. Lights are off, traction control working. Crazy!! Thanks
Now just need to figure out why the oil pressure light is coming on at start up.

Check the Check Engine codes.
I ran into this with a P0420 emissions/catalyst code, seems like when the engine has issues, the car automatically turns off traction control to protect the engine - which is a horrible design in bad winter weather.
For me, I recently got the code and loss of VSC/Trac Off when starting the car after filling up the tank (partially warm engine), but I think I remember it happening recently before where it kicked on while driving.

So what is the solution to this? It did it again today on dry roads, randomly came in while slowing down. So I disconnected the battery again and it fixed it, again. But, how do I stop this from occurring altogether?

most likely a speed sensor. Mine is showing all ABS/Trac lights along with the parking brake light. I disconnected battery and they all came back a day or 2 later. Took it to autozone and checked with their scan tool and sure enough it is the right rear wheel speed sensor (Code:C0210),also got Malf. in ABS system (C1223) and ZPC Yaw rate sensor undone (C1336).

First thing you should do is once the check engine code comes on go get the codes read. See why the cel is coming on. It doesn't matter what code it is it will always turn off the traction control. Not sure why Toyota decided this was a good idea but they did. Mine is throwing the 0430 catalyst under threshold code and it automatically disables the traction control. I bought a Bluetooth obd scan tool and downloaded the torque app that goes with it and I just scan for the code then reset it on the fly unless I want to have fun in the snow then I just leave the cel light on.

I had a similar situation on my 04 v6 and when I pulled the code it was evaporative emmission leak. My gas cap was loose. Total BS that it made my dash light up (traction , check engine, abs , vsrc) causing me to panic but I'm glad it was nothing.
