07 V6 T4R Oil & Filter change

07 V6 T4R Oil & Filter change @ 2,000 due to 6 mo to meet the Ext warranty requirements of 5,000 or 6 months (which ever comes first). Planning on changing them myself and keep receipts as records, as in the past (45K total mi).

1. Has anyone ever had a warranty problem from changing your own oil and filter or was questioned/challenged?

2. The Dealer w/n share recommended oil or filter brand vs theirs. In the past they carried and recommended Castrol bulk or bottles. Who makes theirs now?

3. From servicing two Camrys 10 yrs ea, I feel the Castrol 5w20 oil and wix oil filter will meet their T4R requirements.

4. Is the Castrol 5 w 20 a Synthetic Blend automatically or must be specified, as "Edge" (due to wide range of 5 qt and qt prices quoted?

5. Are any specifics on the Wix oil filter and will a gasket be needed (due to having a case of filters & gaskets once from the Dealer).

Please Share! What is Toyota 07 V6 4runner oil drain plug’s ft lb torque spec? I know I need to get a manual but this came on me sooner than expected. I saw info of a posted torque that seems high for a pan. I agree it's depending on the design of the pan, type of gasket/crush-washer or not and types of threads in the pan. If it’s not a pipe thread in the pan or crouch washer used, it should be strong enough to take higher torque with standard threads and a solid copper gasket or etc.

Attached is how the lower pan and plug appered after my personal 12/2010 purchase. I snugged the plug lightly to solve this drip and sepage. I'll hope no damage is done to the threads (as I inspect them during an oil change this week). Pulled threads are not easily detected as stripped threads. I'll hope for the best!

...sorry for my selective reading...

• You won't void warranty from doing your own oil change
• If you've done your own oil change in the past...you wouldn't be asking this
• Oil Drain Plug Torque Specs - 29 ft/lbs
• I use a 1.5" extension
• 3" extension is too long
• 5w30 at every 5,000 miles
• 5-Wheel Rotation

The task is over and easier than expected with a little help from the floor jack and stand since I d/n have a lift. My wet oil plug/pan became a concern since this was just two weeks after my purchase. Even though I had lightly snugged the plug and it was clean from then on. My real concern became the condition of the threads in the pan since the 29-30 Ft Lbs of torque on the drain plug was felt excessive by some. It felt fine to me with two torque wrenches (with the crush washer giving/sealing). The threads looked good (documented with Pics) as I do most task for my records and sharing as K.C.’s good pics.

PS. I have done all of the routine maintenance on my Cars/Trucks/Suvs, keeping them on the average of 10 rears since 1968. This was my 1st T4R vs my wife’s 2001 Camry. I have gone through a full case of oil filters the Dealer gave a good discount on vs dealing with others. Thanks For All The Extra Help!! jow

You won't need any floor jack what so every for the oil change on the V6 4Runner...I love it!!
