07 V8 Sr5 Sport...should I buy

I am looking at an 07 V8 sport with 134,000 miles...
leather and sunroof...
looks is excellent condition...
I have the dealer down to 14,900....
they cant conform if the timing belt has been changed...

what should i pay for this...14,000...is it worth 14,900?

need some quick advice...

AWD? Then maybe....dont get a RWD.

whats the under carriage look like? gotta make sure the rust is manageable, especially if you want to build it up.

See if it goes into 4LO, as thats a costly repair if not.

CV boots, and seized brake calipers are also a common issue.... I'd use any of these issues to try talking them down a bit more, but still worth buying. The rust condition would be my only deal breaker, the rest are common and manageable issues that happen when you buy trucks over 100k

The V8 is definitely a good fine and worth having, plus everyone loves the hood scoop/spoiler/ roof rack that comes on the sport edition

That's too bad about the timing belt b/c you must assume it hasn't been done and at 134K, it should be a priority. Maybe they'll work with you to include doing the belt as part of the deal. Oh, and what [MENTION=167323]Flash Runner[/MENTION] said about it being a 4x4. I owned a 4x2 Xterra for 11 years and while I loved that truck, I also routinely kicked myself for not buying a 4WD.

Just an FYI, it's either a SR5 or Sport Edtion, can't be both, does it have a hood scoop?

A Sport Edition is worth more than a SR5.

As mentioned most important is checking the frame for rust, second is when was the timing belt done, if ever, i.e. what mileage?

Very minimal rust is a must, very few bolts shoud be showing any rust if at all, any portion of the frame shouldn't be showing anything other than faint surface rust if at all.

The timing belt should of been changed at or near 90,000 miles, if it was done around that mileage you have until around 180,000 mile mark before it needs to be done again, don't just take their word that it was done, you need to see proof.

It's a bit high. I've been seeing some for a little bit less than that for similar or even less mileage. Records are important. I had my timing belt done at 148k and it turned out the previous owner did it but didn't put in any documentation so I sort of did it prematurely. Negotiate the timing belt job into it if you plan on getting it but like everyone said. It'd be the best deal if it did have 4wd. I would pass if it was only RWD.

anyway, suspension bits... if it is a sport, check for leaking XREAS system (if you don't know what XREAS is, search for threads. tons of 'em). that shit goes to shit around 130K so make sure it rides nice. or use it as a bargaining chip.

also... check the sway bar end links, cv boots, anything rubber, wheel bearings, spark plugs, and get all the maintenance records they have. you can join toyota owners' club at www.toyota.com/owners using the VIN and find out what has been done with it at any toyota dealership nationwide.

Technically full time 4WD, even though its on a truck, is still AWD. And on the V8 it's full time 4WD and not part time so technically Flash wasn't incorrect in asking if it's AWD :bounce:

Wait so are all the V8s AWD, meaning all the wheels are receiving power, and then they have part time 4WD if it is the 4WD model, if so I did not know that. I thought the V8s were RW when not in 4x4.

no. all 4WD V8s are full-time 4WD, which is not the same as AWD.

2WD V8s are RWD. 4WD V6s are RWD with selectable 4WD.

too expensive with that mileage. you should be able to find something similar for 10-11k if not less. 14 year old vehicle with 140k on clock. in the absolute least $900 off for timing belt and even then i still might walk.

I’d agree on negotiating the timing belt service! Also check putting it in 4Lo as I had to fix my actuator that was leaking = expensive. Taking it to a know shop and paying $100-150 would be worth it for a thorough inspection of brakes, CV boots, fluids, struts, shocks, etc. you’ll at least have a bargaining chip and now what else would need to be done.

That is a good deal depending on where you are. If that vehicle was in CA and it is indeed a 4wd, it would have already been sold for more than that before you got there. I'm not sure of the car market in the east, but all v8 4wd 4runners between 06 and 09 are gone the second they are for sale...unless, they are not from California (probably all rusted) or have horrible mechanical issues (transfer case does not work at all, over 300k miles, accident repair, blown engine, etc).

Doesn't get much better than that. Subaru likes to muck things up by giving their STI models a center locking differential though...

That V8 didnt work out.....but I just happened upon another one....2006 V8 Sports Edition....184K miles but it was incredible clean...with service records....no rust...upgraded stereo....new tires...pwr seats...sunroof.

I wanted less miles but it was just in too good of condition to pass up...i got it for 8500.

I will start with fluids, belts, sparkplugs, filters etc...

Next I will do suspension....most likely bilstien shocks and fj springs...need to read more about this.

after mechanical items...will upgrade speakers....
