Hello everybody im a new member of the forum. I don't own a 4runner now, but the very second the dealer is able to order the 07 model year I will order a Red or whatever color toyota decides to call it maybe 'salsa red' Limited V8 with navigation loaded with all options available. The wife got a high paying job finally, and we need a second car.

I convinced her to wait till the 07 year because I am really hoping that toyota will go with the optitron dash system that they use in several vehicles now. If I can get that, HID lights and a bigger V8 that is currently offered with a 6 speed transmission that would complete my wish list. No matter what in 07 I will own the 4runner.

I see in the accesorry list for the 06 yr they offer a front skid plate msrp on it is $179, any body get this? If so does it replace the front skid plate that comes from the factory, or is it installed in addition to the factory skid plates?

The 06 just came out with various improvements.....I think major driveline changes are highly unlikely. HID's are also a stretch, as Toyota does not like equipping their taller 4wd vehicles with them.

Why wait for the 07?
 
Two reasons: im really hoping at least for the optitron guages, and if I wait till 07 I can pay cash. Just got done paying for her college education, I dont want any more bills

We all want the latest and greatest, im sure that as soon as the 08 model yr comes my future 07 model will be old fashioned. Because as soon as I buy something it will get improved dramatically the next model yr. With my luck the o8 model will be 400 horses and get 50 miles to the gallon.
 
i doubt you will see any changes in 07, they just refitted the 4runner with some new options so what you want is highly unlikely, but congrats on getting a new 4runner, in a few months
 
the only thing that'll change from 06 to 07 will be the price. it'll go up ever so slightly and that'll be it.

if you want the big changes, don't expect it until 09/10 as I think they'll keep this body model out for atleast a good 6-7 years like the previous gens.

so with that said, just get the 06 and be done with it. one way or another you'll be in debt unless you plan to pay cash. and if ya got that much cash on hand, save up for a house or something instead. now if you already have a sweet pad then i'd say just buy it NOW and be done with it. atleast you can start driving it and enjoying it instead of reading it about it here how we all rave our 4runners :)
 
As many others have said, the 07 will likely not change much. Carmakers tend to redesign cars every 5-7 years with a re-skin halfway through that. The 06 was the reskinning. You can read about all the changes in the 06 changes thread
 
I thought I read in another thread that Toyota won't put HIDs in a true off-road SUV, which is what the 4Runner is considered.

My neighbor's AWD Sienna has HIDs. :upset:
 
Toyota already made changes to the instrument panel and the headlights on the 06. There is almost no chance they will change them again on the 07s. As far as HIDs, I would not expect that either, the DOT requires that all new trucks with HID be install with a auto leveling system, which will raise the price of the 4runner by quite a bit. Toyota is offering, as an option, HID with the auto leveling headlights on the RX330 this year. One might expect that to trickle down to the 4runner in the next re-design if that is the path that Toyota choose to go with.

It is a major advancement in lighting technology. The light is whiter, brighter, less glare, the driver sees much better compared to halogens. Halogens have been on cars for at least 20 yrs, after driving a HID equiped vehicle you would never want old fashioned halogens again, that is how great the difference is. Unfortunatly HID lights are expensive, but compared to halogens they are worth ever penny, especially in rain and snowy conditions. HID lights have no bulb to burn out, it works on a principle similiar to a flurescent light. The life expectancy of this light should out live the vehicle.

HID lights replace the filament in a light bulb with a sealed quartz glass capsule of gas. The amount of light produced is greater than a halogen bulb, while using less power, and has the color temperature closer to natural daylight. HID lamp's lumens per watt (LPW) efficacy is roughly six to eight times that of an incandescent lamp. HID lamps will last 3 to 5 times as long as a halogen bulb.
