08 mushy brakes

I have an 08 SE 4x4 with the V8. I am getting ready to do a mild lift and some bigger tires and want to know if anybody has done any brake upgrade at the same time.

The pedal always seemed a bit mushy, havent taken it to the dealer yet.....was wondering if thats just the way it is or is something that the dealer can correct.

The brakes on these truck do to the electric booster and fixed caliper design ought to feel rock hard. I would suspect a stuck piston(s) on the caliper that needs to be checked out. It'll be readily apparent from how one pad may be worn in comparison to the other.

Brakes on my 04 were mushy so I bled the system. Didn't think it would do much since no real bubbles when I was bleeding the brakes, but it worked in eliminating the mushy pedal. Brakes are firm now. Since I tow now and then, I am going to replace the front rotors and change to ceramic pads next time I need them.

It's amazing how good these brakes are compared to other trucks:

A buddy of mine had his front calipers replaced and got his truck back with mushy brakes. Complained to the service manager (who was new from a Chevy dealer) they weren't right and had him test drive it. New guy says they're fine, don't worry. Buddy calls me up as I'm down the road and has the manager drive my rig and instantly has him a believer that they're aren't right after all.

After spending about $630 for new front calipers, brakes, and turning of rotors b/c the calipers were corroded and pistons stuck, the brakes clamp down quickly as soon as I depress the pedal.

Oh yeah, I spent about $130 for a Toyota brake flush too.
