08 projector headlights on my 05 limited

hey all. little project a friend and I did over the weekend. Came out really really nice. figured id share for any interested in seeing the results. Basically took a set of 2008 projector headlights from my buddies 08 runner and installed them in my 05. Installed them with lightwerkz H11 HID kit in 6000K up top and 9006 HID in 6000k for the fogs. Switched the parking lights to LED's and high beams to silverstar ultra's. Also changed out the drl's to clears although now I have 9006 LED bulbs in 6000k on order for them. Also switched out the rest of the trucks lights with all white LED's (Vanity lights, overhead light, rear trunk, glove box, courtesy lights in the doors, running board, reverse lights, and license plate bulbs) In order to complete the headlight swap the only part I needed besides the headlights was the trim for under the lights. That came from Toyota which comes painted for 80 bucks (cool). Few hours later... results

And a pic of the donner 08 runner who swtiched to dark chrome lights. His set up; Lightwerks H11 6000K HID up top and 9006 3000K for fogs. all leds installed in that truck as well.

Driving the truck at night there is so much more light on the road is ridiculous. opening the doors its a bright as day, maybe a little to bright actually but i don't care. I love how clean the light is and finishes the truck off perfectly. anyhow just wanted to share so hope u enjoyed. Know the pictures don't really show the lights well but, if you are thinking about doing this, do it!

Putting an HID Kit into 2003-2005 & 2006-2009 headlights both give you glare.

For both, you need to lower the headlights.

For the 2006-2009, not only do you lower the headlights, you have to do the Squirrel Eliminator Mod.

And since you have Halogen Projectors & NOT HID Projectors,

you'll end up having a Squirrel Finder.

Not a problem if you have Halogens, but a problem if you have an HID Kit.

Squirrel Finder

Squirrel Finder is the little box above the cutoff line when you turn on the headlight.

The Squirrel Finders will produce glare to oncoming traffic specially if you put HID kit in the 06+ projector style housing.

On-coming cars will flash you, because they think you have your high beams on.

i suggest u to do a retrofit on the projectors, its easy, everything can be purchased from theretrofitsource.com and lightwerkz.

It looks like you guys did real nice clean work. I'm installing a 4300 Philips HID Xtreme kit from Xenon Depot tomorrow. I have a 2003 with reflector housings, but Xenon Depot says that the set up will work great. I'll report back with pics.

I'd be real interested in this, please post a review and pics. The one thing I like about my BMW over my 4R are the HID headlights.

hid in reflectors are not really safe, loads of glare, sure the output is brighter, but it produce alot of glare, try do a retrofit, alot more safer.

From somebody who has done the exact same thing, the trs conversion isnt really worth it IMO. They may be halogen projectors but their performance is just fine compared to the one trs gives you. If you go with higher end projectors maybe there will be a huge difference but that will be a PITA to retrofit.

And rockwall this is my opinion so take it for what it's worth (on both accounts), But xenondepot is a business. They want your money. Yes the setup will be great for you, because it will be like driving around with high beams on. The glare really is terrible for everybody else.

Hey all...

Been a few days since I was on last so just catching up on this with some updates.

So first off headlights / HID's are still going strong :thumb3: I have not noticed any issues with glare or on coming cars being blinded by me. Not one car has flashed and I always try to look at on coming cars to see if they are being blinded and I have to say honestly, no. When im at a light behind a car (sedan for example) my lights hit the back of the trunk. I see no issues with this mod at all. Fact is I get a lot of compliments lol. All in im verrrry happy with them. I also go my LED 6000k DRL bulbs in. Looks perfectly white.

Nsaint - Im pretty sure 03 lights are the same as 05 so this mod should work for you.
