'08 SR5 or '06 Sport

I'm looking to buy a 4Runner fairly soon and there are two main ones I have my eyes set on. One is a white 2008 SR5 with 66k miles for around $18k. The second is a titanium metallic 2006 Sport Edition with around 113k miles for just under $16k.

I live in a medium sized city and don't do any mudding or off-roading but I do like to go backpacking/hiking and we get ice/snow/slush in the winter. I like the body style of the Sport better but the kind-of-high mileage has me wary of it.

Which would you choose and why? Thanks everyone. Love the forum.

I love the sport.. but I love the white more :) Newer, less miles, white... I'll take the 08 :)
Are they both 4WD? Are they V6?

Yes, they are both 4WD and both V6. There are a lot of V8s available near me but as I'm not going to do a lot of offroading or towing, the more powerful engine isn't all that important to me. I'd rather have the slightly better gas mileage. Speaking of which, is the gas mileage any different between the SR5 and Sport?

By the way, your grill mod is sweet.

Nope, same engine. Mostly same equipment. Gas mileage is going to be the same.

I'm assuming you've looked at both in person and are happy with both of them? If it's me I'd choose the newer one with less miles.
 
Don't be scared of the mileage (assuming it was already checked and passed). I bought an '06 SR5 with 109,545 miles, has 114,500 now and zero problems. Everything is solid. You may want to consider buying the '06 and using the leftover cash to modify it. Don't forget, the '06 sport has more features, despite being 2 years older. But if buying the '06 will give you buyer's remorse whenever you look at the odometer, get the '08.
 
The SR5 is loaded. Power everything (driver and passenger seat, sun roof, rear window) Downhill assist, hill start assist, 4WD, cruise control, etc. I believe the Sport is similarly spec'd. I'm really not too worried about the mileage on the Sport, although with our one year-old reliability is important. There are 5 or 6 Toyotas in my family though so I know you really can't go wrong with any of them.

I just love the look and color of this Sport! The lower price isn't bad either.

The features you just mentioned are actually standard (except for the power front seats, which were standard on the '06-'09 V8s, optional on the V6s). As far as I know, the Sport Edition has different interior design, upgraded audio, smoked chrome headlights (as opposed to chrome, I actually swapped those into my SR5) tube steps as opposed to running boards, different roof rack, hood scoop, XREAS sport suspension. Those are the only ones I remember off the top of my head, there might be more. Whichever you choose, don't forget to post pics!

A silver painted roof rack and the sport badges which add 20 HP and 4 mpg! :fro: :cool:
 
Problem solved! (kinda)

An '07 4Runner Sport with only 69k miles just popped up at a dealership an hour from me. Only problem is I'm going out of town really early tomorrow morning and won't be back until Sunday evening. I'm worried it's going to be gone by the time I can go see it since it seems like such a great deal!
 
Another important thing to consider is XREAS- I think it makes the runner drive a lot more nimble (for an SUV of its size). Other differences are mainly cosmetic.
 
Do you have plans for modding it? If so get the lower price of the 2 to save funds for mods.:D

If you don't have any plans to mod then grab the 08 with lower mileage.:iagree:
