Looking for some help...
A buddy of mine is running an '08 Taco 4x4 with All Pro UCA's. He's had to rebuild twice now in the last 3 years because of ball joints and bushings wearing out which has lead to replacing the wheel bearings as well. Low and behold he's got some noise and rattles again, but this time it seems to be the carriage bolt that goes through the UCA and attaches everything to the frame. The play seems to be in the sleeve that the carriage bolt slides thru on the frame, if you grab the wheel and move it side to side the whole assembly moves about 1/8" or a little more, it's the same on both the passenger and driver side. Everything else seems tight, no play in the bushing or balljoints but if this keeps up he's looking at ANOTHER rebuild.
I really don't know much about the suspension on these rigs as I drive a 2nd gen 4R. I've searched around on many different forums and haven't found anyone with the same problem, do these bolts wear out? Could it be the sleeve itself? Could he have damaged the bolt on the last rebuild and the offroading has just made it worse?
Any help would be appreciated, he really doesn't want to rebuild an IFS setup for the 3rd time when he could take that money and SAS
The last time he rebuilt was the fall/winter of '11, it hasn't really been driven that much as he has a van he uses for work on a daily basis (only 80-85,000kms on the truck...MAYBE 10,000km since the last rebuild)
