08 urban runner seat tearing

hey all,
i have an 08 urban runner and on the driver side the leather part is starting to rip. i'm not sure why either. i haven't punctured it or anything and it looks like it started breaking away from the seam. maybe i sit funny or get in the car funny.

I dont know if this helps or hurt the cause but the toyota dealership replaced the urbanrunner's tomtom headunit with an avic-z3 and during the installation they told me the technician ripped my seat. i think he had a screwdriver latched onto his belt and when he sat down, it ripped it. i never saw the rip cuz it was at the dealership the whole time. but they said they would replace my seat. not sure what they actually replaced or if they just got a new cover.

i have attached 2 pics as well.

any1 know how i can fix or at least what i should to prevent further damage?

does the standard warranty cover this by any chance?

They're OEM accessory all weather mats. It was mentioned in another thread Toyota discontinued these in light of the sudden unintended acceleration incidents and recalls.
 
Didn't want to start a new thread on a topic already created. But, I didn't see any suggestions for this issue & I have the same problem. Anyone have any suggestions?
 
The side of my driver seat has an x shaped crack/tear in the leather. Really pizzed me off. I glued it but it looks like ****.
 
Yeah, I saw in another thread someone was going to crazy glue the leather together. Seemed like a temporary fix. Also, I have seen some leather repair kits that look like they do an amazing job. The issue I have is where the leather meets the cloth, like in the picture. Don't know if the repair kits will work in this scenario.
 
mines trashed too...i was going to just see if i can buy just the lower area piece and replace it myself. shouldnt be too hard to remove the torn one and re-cover it
anyone know the price?
 
Possibly interested in this too. Really looking to fix so rips & tears don't get any bigger. Was initially thinking about Wet Okole, but would rather fix seat or attempt to fix first.
 
There was a slash in one of the rear seat bolsters when I bought mine. The dealer sent my UR to an apolstery shop. They removed the rear seat cover and sewed in a new bolster piece.

Now I have a rip on the same piece as you, but it is from me.

Just find a GOOD shop and make sure they have the same color material.

BTW, it's not leather. It's leatherette. And the color is Dark Charcoal.

Thanks, actually was an option I was thinking about, also. Guess I just have to price out all my options.
Also, thanks for the color, didn't know exactly what to call it.
 
Have you talked to the dealer about it yet? If it's the same thing they've already replaced, and it's found to be defective, shouldn't it be covered? I'd try that angle..
 
man it should be cover , even the dealer noted the mechanic tore it .. I go back to them and try to get them to cover it....
 
Is that part of your seat leather? If so, my leather seat has the same kind of tear in it. I brought it to the dealer around 2 years ago and they told me "it is normal wear and tear." I condition my seats religiously and they still didn't care. I guess we can chalk it up to cheap materials!
 
my 2006 ltd 4x4 v8 has cracks on drivers side seat also...85,000 miles and the only two problems so far......headlights starting to glaze......
 
This happened to our driver side 08 Urban Runner before the 3 years 36k warranty ran out and the stealership replace it under warranty.
 
Replacement Part Number

It took a little digging. Urban Runner parts seem to be a bit more buried than the others.

The Original Part number was 7107235280B0
but it has been replaced with another part number according to a few parts websites. The new part number is 7107235281B0

I'm getting ready to order my 2nd replacement. The Leatherette sure doesn't like the cold!
