'08 V8 stalls after installing new intake

Hey all,

Today I installed a Volant intake on my 08 V8, but after getting it all buttoned up, it'll start, then stall a second or two later. My first thought was that I might have dirtied/damaged my MAF sensor when I set it aside, but cleaning and replacing the sensor changed nothing.
I'm not getting any trouble codes, so I dont really know what to look at next.

I'm thinking that my SAIP bypass kit may have gotten jostled loose, or my TB is dirty, but I'm not convinced of either actually being the root cause.

Do you have any other suggestions of things that might be worth looking at? Any and all appreciated. It's finally below freezing here, and we're expecting snow tomorrow night, so I'm hoping that I can get this solved by then

Did you disconnect the battery.

If you did it may do that once or twice till it relearns itself.

Check vacuum lines too. If it still does it disconnect the bypass kit and try it agin.

I did not disconnect the battery until after I saw that it was stalling. I'll definitely try the bypass kit tomorrow, once I recheck the install instructions for it.

Vacuum lines were a concern of mine, but everything that is supposed to connect to the intake is connected securely and doesnt appear damaged. the intake pipe that I'm replacing did not have the smaller line on the back of the intake connected (not sure of it's explicit purpose, but it appears to be attached to a regulator or something on the passenger side of the intake manifold. It's been capped for months, and I hadnt noticed any difference between capped/open)

It happens to me after unplugging things, installing my stereo, etc. I guess the ECU knows something is missing or was unplugged shortly and it just reasses itself for a split second before continuing.

Maybe I'll just try it a few more times then. I tried it 3 or 4 times in a row with no change. but maybe i need to do it another time or two

Edit: tried starting another 5 times, I could hear the cranking behavior change (it's cranking for longer now), but it still stalls a moment later.

I may have figured it out, and it sounds like a pretty rookie mistake.


I think I put the MAF in backwards. checking some old pictures seems to confirm it.

I should've thought about it when I saw no pre-drilled holes in the Volant tube for it, and I didnt see any kind of flow direction marking.

I'll update tomorrow morning once I go back outside and check, hopefully before the snow comes.

check the ecu efi fuse?

do a good cleaning on the throttle body and maf sensor , maf sensor have tiny wire on the inside, spray with electrical cleaner and let it self dry, about 1 min.

plug everything back in right, make sure you have the maf sensor pointed to the right direction.

Im suprised that there were no pre drilled holes.

IIRC there might be an arrow on the sensor that shows airflow direction.

Thank you all for the suggestions, I can confirm that I DID install it backwards, (there doesnt seem to be a direction marker on this hitachi sensor)

and now I'm up and running like normal.

Intake sounds MEAN. butt dyno/ear dyno approved.

I do need to figure out what I'm going to do about the gap between pipe and box though.

I agree, the computer is probably confused on what is going on!

his problem was he installed maf sensor backwards. got to look at the way the sensor go.
