09 V8 Limited TRD/Borla Exhaust

Our 09 V8 LTD landed last week and I was hoping to get a Borla Dual Catback exhaust installed but we unexpectedly ran into the following problem….

No one knows if it will fit…Borla says it will fit the 05-08 range part 140146 and according to a service rep the 09 might have different hanger positions…and suggested that I do not order it because it cannot be returned.

I know another member Mephisto indicated that it worked for his 09 sport, and I was hoping to find out if any other members have tried/ attempted to install the dual catbacks from Borla.


The TRD Catbacks are no longer available from any of the local toyota dealers

you could always find a 05-08 for sale locally and crawl underneath it to check out the hangar mounting points to know for sure...

I'm curious though why you want to spend 1K on a catback exhaust system... just buy a muffler (borla at that if you like for $200) and do the resonator delete mod... a weld shop can weld it on for maybe $100 along with the side exit... get a borla tip and no one would know the difference except you because your wallet will be much heavier.
 
I would do it. I'm sure it's the same, and if it's not, worst case, you can have an exhaust shop make it fit. The shop I use made my catback from my '03 V8 fit my '06 V8 with a little custom work. Fits perfectly and they had it done in an hour.

I got my proXS from borla on eBay for $70 iirc and the TRD exhaust tip for $60. Shop quoted me $120 or so to install, plus the custom bends and the adapters for whatever weird metric size we have to 2.5". No reason to get an expensive catback, when overall it cost me $130 in parts, and (when I get around to it) $120 in labor. 1/4 The cost of that catback, for custom work. :)
 
You have an 09' Limited? I thought the V8 option was dropped for the 2009 model? I may be wrong but wasnt the V6 all that was available along with dropping the SE for the Trail Edition?
 
I have an 2008 Limited V6 and had a problem with the way Borla marketed the exhaust. When I ordered it, a V8 system came. It is too long. The V6 is shorter. This is what I concluded

Borla 140036 -> 2003-2009 Toyota 4Runner V6
Borla 140146 -> 2003-2009 Toyota 4Runner V8

Borla DISCONTINUED BOTH SYSTEMS unfortunately.....
