1 day in Moab. What to see & do?

I've never been there. My buddy and I want to drive around and see some of the sites and iconic off-roading places. We'll have some kind of rental 4wd SUV, a case of water, 1st aid kit and cellphones (semi-useless I would guess).

We'd love to do some dirt road cruising and get into things that a regular car couldn't/shouldn't but we don't want to be foolish either.

Suggestions? Will there be lots of folks doing the same thing? Anyone here there on July 7th?

I used to take my wrangler there quite a bit. It was lifted and locked and I could tackle most trails. I was there last week in my new T4R. Wife wouldn't let me tackle anything. However, if you don't want to break anything, try these:

Potash Road to Canyon Lands - go through the potash mine, then you will get incredible views of the river and canyon. You finish up with a slightly puckery switch back up the old mining road.

Fins and things. Rated a three, no tough obstacles, but my wife hates the heights. All slick rock or sand.

Poison Spider Mesa - rated a four, but the tough obstacles can be bypassed. Lunch at an arch, then on the way back, take the diversion to gold bar and try the launching pad. Just about 45 degrees, a good test for hillside assist and DAC.

Just my opinion.

It was incredible! Drove and minor walks in Canyonlands and Arches. I would love a week or 10 days in late Sept (not so hot). Unfortunately we got a Tuscon due to a mix up. 4wheelin was out of the question

Sucks.

Moab is the gods gift to getting off the pavement. 4wheeling, mountain biking, rafting, hiking, rock climbing, dirt biking, even ATV'ing, it's Outdoor Mecca.

Seven years living in Utah was tough, culturally, but Moab alone made up for it.
