10 deg weather causes stiff brakes.

so like the title says. since moving back to college the weather has gone off the deep end and is stupid cold. in the mornings upon a slow cranking (i need a new battery) and start up the brakes feel like im not getting any power brakes for the first few minutes. this morning i wasn't expecting it and almost hit the car behind me while backing out of the parking spot.

so what i am thinking is there might be moisture in the master cyl and i am thinking about sucking it out and refilling it. what would u guys say?

like i said this only happens when it sits overnight and its colder than 15ish.

If you have moisture in your brake system, I suppose the brake paddle should be soft.

I think your non-return valve in the power brake vacuum line may be stuck?

if the brake fluid had enough water to freeze on you, your pedal would be solid since the master cylinder would be frozen.

try taking a look at the friction part of your brakes... maybe water is freezing in that area.

I too have cold weather trouble. my hub bearing freezes because I must have got water in there.

no i air is what makes it soft. air compressed easier than water.

try taking a look at the friction part of your brakes... maybe water is freezing in that area..

i know that i have no problems with my pads. prob not my calipers ether because what it feels like is my brake booster isnt working and im not getting any pressure through my lines to help me stop.

I prefer Celsius....

There is a non return valve between the brake booster (also called servo) and the intake manifold. It should open to pull air into the engine to make the vacuum in the brake booster. If it stays close no air will pull into the engine making a hard brake. I think it is located at the end of the vacuum hose right on the brake booster.

Before you start next time, pour some hot water onto the non return valve and see how it goes.
