Woohoo...my G is on there! I am sure that if the VW Touareg is on there, the 4runner should be too! The darn VW will breakdown even before you get out of your driveway to go to Walmart!

That DAF 95 Turbotwin X1 is insane! I'd love to roll around in one of those.

Stock for stock, I think the Toureg is pretty capable, and dare I say even more so than the 4Runner? 11" ground clearance (I think) and center and rear diff locker. Which won't do it any good when it's broken down, though.

What exactly is a rear locker? How is it different than the center diff?

This list is crap IMO! No qualified auto scribe should leave this off a top ten apocalypse car list

I guess we can take some pride that the T4R & GX got a quasi honorable mention in the FJ writeup

Serioudly though, if I could only have one T4R for the apocalypse I think I'd choose a '99/'00 4banger 4x4.

In terms of pure strength and resistance to outright mechanical breakage, I'm guessing you couldn't top the G.
