100,000 mile Maintenance??

I have 105,000 miles now and was curious as to what maintenance was required. I called the local dealer and they told me the rear diff($70), coolant($70), and timing belt?($355). They said spark plugs and wires at 120,000 miles. What is necessary? TIA!

I have a 2006 4Runner V8 2wd. Thanks

The dealer told me that the tranny fluid never had to be changed unless there was an issue. the engine oil is a given every 3000 miles and I just had my brakes worked on. Thoughts?

When that issue arises, it might be too late. That's why we change our fluids at different intervals. It's called Preventive Maintenance. I change my tranny fluid every 30K.

Not to mention timing belt since he has the V8. When (to the OP) was the last time you changed the spark plugs? On a V8 they need to be changed with iridum plugs at 100,000 miles.
 
Go ahead and get the water pump too. Timing belt is critical. Anything over 100K, and you are playing with a ticking time bomb. Spark Plugs are good at 100K, just change around 120K. For sure get the rear diff. Also don't forget the little things, like cabin air filter.

This is the maintenance TOYOTA recommends.
Dealers have different recommendations which tend to inflate both your bill and their profits.

When I have my 4Runner serviced at my dealer I print out this page and cross off or add items. My dealer is very good about doing exactly what I ask them to do regarding maintenance.
 
Is the V8 an interference or non-interference engine?

The most critical is transmission flush, coolant flush, and the timing belt/water pump.

I too have been told over the years to not mess with the tranny fluid unless there is an issue. My good friend with 15+ years experience as an Auto Tech said changing the fluid could stir up little bits of crud which have settled, and he actually recommends not changing.

I just take his advice, and have never had an issue.
 
2008 4 runner v8 4.7

If the timing belt breaks on my2008 4.7l v8 does it screw up the motor? I have been to 3 different totota dealers and they all gave me different answers.
Is this year V8 4.7 an interference motor or not?

Timing belt needs to be changed every 90K. Coolant change at 100K. Brake fluid is preference but every other year is what I do.

Transmission - Search for this one but 60K miles for heavy towing. ITS NOT A LIFETIME FLUID. DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYONE WHEN THEY TELL YOU IT DOESNT NEED TO BE CHANGED.

Yes, it will. Dealers don't really know anything about the cars they sell/service, so don't worry about them.
 
That's pretty inexpensive for a timing belt at the dealer. As others have said before, when you have the timing belt done, have the water pump done too.
 
I have a 2000 4Runner V6 manual transmission with about 110K miles on it. Do I need to change the transmission fluid? as it's a manual and not an automatic does that make a difference? Thks also Timing belt was changed at 60k (when I bought it) but no documentation of water pump being changed ... is it reasonable to wait to 150K to change the timing belt? Also nothing has been lubricated or re-torqued as per the recommended maintenance schedule, but it runs as nicely as when I bought it at 60K miles. The only major things I have done to it are replace the clutch at 80K miles and engine coolant flush at 105K miles (I do oil changes every 4K miles + air filter etc). Do I need to do anything?

The maintenance book on my 2005 4 runner says no interval (100,00 miles).
I had the dealer change it at 100,000, and paid some $500.

Now at 140,000 miles on 4Runner. Runs like new!


No drips from coolant, oil, hoses, tranny on this car -in your driveway or garage ever.

My mechanic with 25 years at Honda/Chevy dealer told me not to touch the rear differential, so I stopped whatI was about to change it.:target::target::banana:
 
Talking about the high milage 4runners - how to know if the coolant/antifreeze needs replacement? The color is pretty bright and clean. Read a lot about HG issues so would like to avoid that. Already did alternator, oil in all diffs, TC and gearbox.

Why is that? I changed mine at 105k and didn't notice any difference, aside from a slight bump in MPG.
