11k too much for a 2002??

I KBB'D this car and it comes out to about 7000 rounded up,
this guy has it listed it for 11k, is he out of his mind, or am i just not seeing straight??

It is hard to come by a 4x4 Sport in Thundercloud (in my searches anyway), but that price seems insane.

That truck has a Center Diff Lock, not the rear diff lock like the seller stated. Just an FYI.

Depending on Maintenance records, condition etc.. I can see him getting 11k.

Nice 3rd gens are getting harder to find and are still very popular so it will become a sellers market for the nicer ones. I know I overpaid for mine :sad:

People seem to think just because it says "Toyota" means it is worth it's weight in gold. $11K would be even overpriced for a similar Tacoma and they always go for much much more than these 4Runners.

I paid $8K for my 02 Taco V6 TRD 4x4 with 109K a year ago.
I also just bought a 97 4Runner V6 supercharged Limited auto with 86K on it for $3,750

$11K for that is outrageous!

In 2007 I traded a 01 SR5 for 14.4k with 125k miles on the clock.

the problem is the guy knows what he has. A clean Thundercloud sport will always fetch a premium. The only downside is the mileage. I can see him getting 8 or 9g's for it, which he very well might be willing to take. You'll never get something if you don't ask for it, so I can see where he's coming from with that price.

Exactly! I saw a similar ad local to me where they had a 2001 and claimed it had a rear locker. I contacted them and they said that's what the dealer they bought it from told them. I said, well they lied to you! They wanted like 10k for it!! After a couple days of the ad being up and them not changing it, I flagged it.

FWIW, I paid 8.3k for my fully loaded limited '99 around 4 years ago with 130k. Southern truck it's entire life and perfect record and maintenance. I wouldn't pay 11k for any STOCK 3rd gen no matter what. Hell, you could damn near buy a 2004-2008 4th gen with a v8 for that price.

I overpaid for mine and didn't mind at all. 3rd gens are rock solid. Only expensive thing I've had to do is tires. Every time I end up in a dealership for some reason or another the salesmen get in a fight to talk to me about trading in my 4runner......it won't happen. I thought about it but its just not worth getting right. Miles to the gallon and space with 4wd.....

Yeah, 11k is a bit much. We bought ours a couple months ago for 7k, 2000 v6 MT sr5 with minimal upgrades and 120,000 miles, and it was a little less than what others were going for.

One thing you have to remember, is that it has a Cali plate on it. Which means your probably going to pay more for it anyway. People in Cali generally have an inflated value of things, especially if you are near the bigger cities. Once you get out of the state, things drop quick. I was born and raised in Cali, and travelling around have seen some crazy deals. One for sure was a friend who bought a pristine late 70's Cadillac El Dorado 2 door, pink with white top, low miles, no damage to interior, for $200, yes 200, and all he had to do was change the starter and it ran perfect. That was in Wyoming.

Its not ridiculously overpriced as you think.

A) when you did kbb you probably put in that it was just an SR5. Am I wrong? Well sports are as valuable if not more so than limiteds FYI. KBB doesnt have an option for that

B) That is a very in demand color of the sport edition. KBB cant take that into account.

I overpaid for mine. 02 AT SR5 4x4 110K...$11k

Now I find them similarly equipped for 7-8k, private seller of course. I bought mine from a dealer. They put 4 new tires on it and did timing belt and fluids, so that was nice. Plus, it's clean as a whistle. Still...I wish I didn't pay that much!

dude if you paid over KBB say by more than $1k over private party than yes you definitely got ripped off. You (or whoever) might not realize it or want to admit it but it's true.

KBB actually prices most cars way higher than they normally sell for and their data is always updating.

I have noticed that the Lurkers are often the ones who overpay because they such a high desire to join the 4Runner club that they will overpay.

Why is a sport worth more than a limited? I've never heard that before. I do like the color matching though.

As someone who is currently trying to sell his 4Runner is there a chance you are a bit biased? (Just checking)

A rare color doesn't add $1,000 (in this case $4,000) value over KBB.

I have to disagree. At least here in Southern California, KBB usually under prices "older cars" ...

Special Cars
-I had a few 2nd gen Toyota Mr2 turbos which KBB priced at $3500 while those in good condition consistently sold for $5,000+
-There were less than 1,000 1995 MR2 turbos sold in the USA. KBB prices those at $5000... LOL... right :heh: Let me know if you find a 1995 mr2 turbo

KBB would price this at $2200... good condition Low Mileage ones sell for $3500
Gas prices have increased demand for older 4 bangers that dont have all this specialized electronic equipment but still net good MPG

I got my 1997 Limited 4x4 Limited w/ E-locker 153,000 miles for $3500...
According to KBB I overpaid...
According to this forum and all the enthusiasts who drive and determine prices, I underpaid...
(side note: the guy I bought the 4runner from didn't know what the diff lock button did)
