When I was looking for a 3rd gen, I certainly noticed a price premium for 01-02 Sports - often more than 01-02 Limiteds. I would have been happy with any clean 3rd gen - just happened to luck my way into an exceptionally clean 2002 Thundercloud Sport.

over 20. And I work at a dealership. I'm an old foxbody 5.0 mustang guy. Since we apparently all know how much KBB sucks, here's an example. KBB says a 1993 5.0 hatchback is worth roughly the same as a notchback (coupe). When in actuality, coupes will bring up to double the price of a hatchback. Why doesn't KBB know this? Because they're dumb. KBB says my truck is worth what, $3,800? Why have I had no less than 3 offers of $6,500 for it?

You can toss KBB and Bluebook out the window around here. 4wd 'yotas go for a pretty penny. Here's an example. Keep in mind that they price them as non-negotiable and this one is from NY, so rust is most likely an issue.

It comes down to condition and buyer preference. Personally, I would rather buy one with excellent documentation, appearing to need nothing for 15k or so (such as tires, brakes, belts, and other basic stuff) for a higher price, even 11k, then get one where you have to spend a few thousand to make everything great anyway.
What good is a cheaper price if the truck does not meet the buyers wants 100% (like color, options, or edition), or if you need to dump money into it right away?
At the end of the day, you may buy the 11k truck and drive for years with no problems, or buy a 8k truck with problems, or the opposite....I lucked out on mine, based on KBB (which is a joke, no dealers use it) I over paid as I dropped 10k (with tax and dealer fee), listed for 8,995 on my 00', but I still feel I got it for a steal! 'd spend 11k on the right truck all day long....

There's a 2000ish around here with I think like 65k on it for $15,995. I guess I should crarify my previous posts. It's not that I don't think the truck is overpriced, because I do, slightly. But I also think the guy will probably get pretty close to his asking price for it because of the cult following.

I paid $11k for my 2002 Sport Thundercloud with 101k dry Arizona miles. Had the water pump and timing belt done at 80k and it came with brand new tires. Interior was mint. Maybe I overpaid by a little, but I couldn't be more happy with the rig.

Do not buy a vehicle in haste to beat someone else who may overpay before you. Overpaying is overpaying. There are few things as readily available in this world as used cars and trucks for sale. Of course a fairly priced one in very good condition will sell quickly. A truly extraordinary one will command a premium. But do NOT use "if I don't buy it quick someone else might" as motivation. Buy it if it is what you want and think it is a fair price. To arrive at a realistic purchase price before buying I ask myself "how much would I be able to sell it for if I had to sell it next week?" When selling I ask myself "how much would I need to pay if I wanted to buy this next week?"
This helps me figure out a realistic price.
Remember, you are buying a used vehicle. I assume you are willing to accept imperfections. Unless you want a premium product, in which case you should pay a premium price.

That doesn't sound like as bad a deal since yours had 101k but the one in the First post had 150K+ miles.
I was specifically in the hunt for a Golden Pearl Limited. I offered them 13.5k for it was was turned down. I bought my one owner car for 11 and change.

Thats because Golden Pearls are the shiz! Had to pass on a few looking for mine as well since sellers wanted an arm and a leg for them. Its that damn Lexus paint...
